Maliketh's body been corrupted and altered since his time in the void fields and in Ethera (the prison)
He gave Jin the ability to create tarnished, but that is because he infected Jin with the Tarnished Worm in first place.
The Tarnished Worm is like a tumor implanted in the body of its host, allowing Maliketh to alter their brain and body, and give them powers. He simply took the idea of Mara and morphed it into his own, as much as the abundance aeon is unaware of this fact.
He is only one of the many lords of the damned, and there is a lot more all who wish to see Evermore perish and die.
