When she trudged down the hallway, she heard a voice seemingly talking to himself and sped up to get to the room at the end of the hall. Her heart skipped a beat.

Shadows pushed open the ajar door and the man knitting on his bed yelped, covering his face with the knitted fabric.

When he saw it was her, his expression changed and he sighed mixed with a groan. "Why does no one ever knock?" He whined, placing his knitting down on his chest.

There was pain in Tae's eyes as she stared at him, roaming his face for injuries, but there were none. He looked changed, almost a different man, and there were new tattoos and dog dags that she didn't have the energy to comprehend the sudden existence of.

She expected a hug. Some relief that she was alive. She yearned to hug him to show the same excitement that he was alright, but the shadows behind her beckoned her to go back. To leave.

Klaus glanced down at something then quickly avoided her gaze and picked up his knitting again, slower, less concentrating this time.

"Glad to see you're alive, sis."

Was that it?

She watched him with hollow eyes. She internally begged him to say something, but he didn't. He was still avoiding her.

The fairy lights strung around his bed flickered and his finger movements faltered.

Say something.

He didn't, then glared at something over by his window before stubbornly shaking his head and going back to knitting.

Acknowledge her existence, at least.

Tae's eyes filled with bitter tears before she just turned to leave, saying nothing, feeling defeated and confused.

As she stepped out into the dark hallway, she asked herself why she bothered.

She headed through the shadows, them swirling at her back and following her as she headed back to her room. She didn't know what she was going to do, but she couldn't try and force a conversation with Klaus again. She didn't know what was wrong with him, and it crushed her everytime he failed to meet her eyes.

As she slammed her door behind her, shadows burst out and knocked the books off of her shelves. She leant against the door and covered her face with her hands.

A few minutes later, someone was knocking on her door as she glumly stared down at the mess of her books - that she had once put so much thought and care into taking care of, now folded, crumpled and scattered across her floor.

She went to open the door a crack to see who it was cautiously, and was surprised to see it was Vanya.

The tension in her body dissipated and she opened the door a bit more.
