Elena stared at the woman in shock and remembered Silas telling them Amara had been murdered. How was she here? Was she not truly murdered?
Elena examined her eerily identical face under a set of perfectly coiled curls. She wore a beautiful lavender dress that looked like it was hand sewn for a queen. The sleeves of the dress clung to her delicate arms like a glove and her puffy dress skirt swayed with her every movement.

"How can it be you? I saw the blood everywhere Amara! Qetsiya killed you!"

Silas exclaimed, still looking like the blood had left his face. He stared her up and down intently, trying to determine if she was real or just a figment of his imagination.

"It is I, Silas. She did not kill me, she only wanted you to believe I was dead. That was her greatest revenge, forcing you to live with the torture of believing I was gone though I was here all along."

She replied to him as she moved toward him hesitantly, waiting for him to let his guard down and accept that it was his long lost love and not a hallucination.

"But how!? Where have you been all this time? How could you leave me to believe you'd died because of me!"

"She locked me away in a tomb Silas I could not escape. They set me free."

She gestured toward Damon and Bonnie and they nodded at her, though they seemed just as confused as everyone else.

A tear fell from Silas eye and he wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace.

"Oh god! My love, I waited forever to see you again and I'd do it over and over to feel you in my arms this way. I wished on every star, prayed to every god. Eventually i gave up and waited for death to find a way to take me, and it never did."

"I know it has been far too long, I'll never be parted from you again. I'm here forever now my love, you'll never feel my absence again."

Amara said gently, crying into his neck.

Elena couldn't help but feel the tug on her heart strings. Silas might be a terrible monster but maybe he was just an innocent man turned dark by a world full of pain. It was both strange and beautiful to see an exact copy of herself and Stefan finding each other again. It made her feel as if Stefan was right, no matter what happens fate would always bring them back to each other.

Elena snapped out of her daydream when she heard the sound of glass breaking. She looked at Amara and Silas, confused at the sight in front of her.

Amara had shoved a vile of red liquid down Silas throat, faster than she could blink. Silas fell back from her and began to cough while he reached for his throat in pain.

"What is this? What have you done to me?!"

He screamed at her, fighting to catch his breath through his coughing fit before falling to the ground

"I guess I'll be a saint and let you know this before I kill you, so you won't have to die believing your true love betrayed you. I'm not Amara."

She replied with a devious grin while she stood over him, watching him suffer.

Silas screamed out when she reached into his chest and ripped his heart out. She stared at the bloody heart in her hand and watched as Silas took his last breath with a satisfied look in her eyes.

"God what would you guys do with out me."

She called out before tossing the heart on the floor next to her.

"Katherine?"

Elena spoke into the now painfully quiet room, still processing what had happened

"Of course, who else? I'm the only doppelgänger with a brain it seems like."

Katherine replied, walking over to Damon and Bonnie with a smile

"You couldn't have let us in on your grand plan?! And thanks for waiting until I was nearly Silas' mid afternoon snack."

Damon yelled at her, throwing his hands in the air and walking toward her

"I couldn't tell you and risk him reading your minds. I knew what I had to do and how I had to do it. And tada! I got it done. You're still alive right? So get over it and thank me."

She replied, rolling her eyes.

"Why did you save us? What's in it for you?"

Elena asked her wearily. Katherine never did anything out of the kindness of her heart...

"Because I want Stefan, and I can't have him if he's dead obviously."

"I don't want you Katherine I won't be with you just because you saved our lives. I'm grateful for your help but I can't give you what you want."

Stefan told her in all seriousness as he stood up and walked toward Elena now.

"It's okay Stefan I'm willing to wait. Elena is only human she won't live forever. When she's all old and wrinkled and you're looking for the fresh, young version I'll be here."

Stefan rolled his eyes and tried to ignore her.
Elena winced at her words. She hated that they were true. Someday Elena was going to get old and Stefan would still be young and beautiful, forever...

"Hey is your head okay Elena? Here have my blood."

Stefan consoled her, softly stroking her hair before biting his wrist and offering it to her.
She closed her eyes and drank from him, feeling the pressure in her head become lighter.

"I'm so glad you guys are okay!"

Bonnie cried out, running to hug Elena.
Elena wrapped her arms around her in a warm embrace, feeling more than relieved to see her safe.

"I'm so glad you guys are okay."

Elena spoke into Bonnie's hair, peeking over her shoulder at Damon who stood there next to Katherine. He was staring at Elena with a look she couldn't figure out. She racked her brain to find the words to say to him, though she knew there were none.

"Thank you Damon, for not giving up."

She called out to him while her and Bonnie disconnected from their hug.
Damon nodded casually and looked away from her gaze.

"Well that's me. I'm just glad we got rid of the surprise doppelgänger. I thought brooding-Stefan was bad, man he's got nothing on creepy-demon-Stefan."

Damon replied dryly, smirking at Stefan who was hiding a smile himself.

"Alright.. I know it's a bad time but I've kind of been locked in here for a few days and all Silas fed me was porridge. I'm dying for some real food."

Elena said to the group hesitantly, wanting to leave this cave as fast as possible and never see it again.

"We know a place, come on."

Damon announced, leading the way down the dark path that brought Elena here in the first place.

It might've been the most terrifying few days of Elena's life, but this is what brought Stefan back to her. She couldn't help but feel grateful when he took her hand and guided her behind him.

She suddenly couldn't fight the sadness she felt for how Silas and Amara's story had ended.

Were they together now, in the afterlife somewhere? Or was it through the form of her and Stefan that their love could live on?
