“The fever is finally gone.”

Ben's expression brightened as he checked the thermometer. He sighed in relief and placed a cushion at the head of the bed for Étienne to lean on.

“The changed medicine must have worked. I am very glad.”

"I know."

Etienne, buried in a soft cushion with Ben's help, answered with a weak face. His thin voice mixed with a rustle. Ben handed the ginger tea he had prepared to Etienne, who was hoarse.

“Now you just need to stop coughing.”

"Hmm."

Etienne took a sip of the steaming ginger tea and set the cup down on the wooden tray. His throat was so swollen that it was difficult to pass the tea.

“Eat some more.”

“My throat hurts….....”

Étienne replied, rubbing his hand on his tingling neck. Ben looked at him with pity. He still shudders when he thinks of what happened five days ago.

Then what the hell was that?

Ben pondered as he put away the ginger tea. On that day, Etienne was a little strange even to himself. He had served Étienne as chief attendant for a long time, but he had never seen him act so emotionally.

It's probably because of Stella or something. Ben guessed that Stella was the cause. No matter how much he thought about it, there was no reason other than her. That day, the only element that was different from usual was Stella.

Besides, her attitude was frivolous and rude. What did he say she saw Etienne, didn't she pretend to be friendly as soon as she met him? He was watching from behind, and he himself also thought, ‘What?’ So he said what should Etienne do.

The reason he wasn't angry with Stella was because she was a vassal of Archduke Eckhart, and he had previously kicked out courtiers who made fun of her.

Ben was almost certain of his idea. However, he had one unanswered question. It was that Étienne, who had gone out alone, was dazed in the rain. No matter how angry he was with Stella, there was no reason for him to act so emotionally driven.

“Cough, Cough…...!”

"This."

Distracted by the cough, Ben quickly held out his handkerchief. Étienne covered his mouth with the handkerchief he had handed and coughed a few more times. Étienne, who had barely stopped his cough, smiled at his blushing face. He seemed to have difficulty breathing.

“I’m sorry, I should have looked after you well…...”

Ben, who was examining his sickly face, couldn't help but apologize. Then Etienne smiled lightly.

“That sound again. I said it wasn't your fault."

“It’s my fault.”

Despite Etienne's consolation, Ben's expression didn't seem to ease. In the past few days, he was plagued with guilt for not being able to properly assist Etienne. It was because the cold that he was struggling to get through was getting worse because he was hit by cold rain.

“If I had reacted properly and followed right away, Your Highness wouldn't have gotten caught in the rain.”

“I was acting on my own. So you don't have to apologize."

Étienne raised his hand and patted Ben's arm. When he saw him blaming herself, his apologetics rose. It wasn't Ben who was to apologize, it should be himself.
