The turtle bros were chilling in their sewer home on a comfy Tuesday evening. The TV blared a replay of 'Jupiter Jim Saves another Cat 2' with Mikey watching intently 2 millimetres away from the screen while Leo and Raph read comics on the couch behind. As always, Donnie was hidden away in his lab working on various machines and projects.

Just before Jupiter Jim gets to the front of the grocery line with the cat treats there's a startling-

POOF!

The muffled sound came from within the lab, all heads turn and the film is paused. A light purple coloured gas pushes out from underneath the solid metal sectional door of Donnie's lab. "Dee? You okay?" Mikey's concerned voice didn't reach for enough to be heard through ringing ears...

Inside the lab the purple turtle stumbles through the thick smoke quickly fizzing from a reaction and filling the room, he coughs and tries to take a breath but the polluted atmosphere strangles him until he's struggling to draw in any oxygen. It's starting to cloud his vision. Fumbling around for the door release he's now panicking, feeling as though he is drowning in the unexpected reaction that took place.

'I need to escape. I need to go I can't breathe I can't- GO LET ME OUT NO '

Hearing the distressing sounds of poor Donatello seemingly choking to death the three brother almost teleport to the labs metal door "What do we do?!" Mikey's panicked shrieks don't exactly help but luckily big brother Raph makes sure all new doors are bust-through-able upon installation "Step back" he warns as he tenses his gift of strength and rips the barrier off its hinges with minimal effort. The purple tello-branded smoke filters out in into the air, though the now dilute concentration shouldn't be dangerous, the very densely clouded lab where Donnie still was seemed to be currently uninhabitable.

For a few seconds he wasn't visible amongst the blanket of purple gas but his strained gasps and chokes could still be heard at an uncomftable volume. For a moment, Raoh looked just about ready to jump into the lab and fish donnie out himself and trust me he would've if the purple brother hadn't surfaced into visibility a second later.

he clung to the wall and tried to take a step, being so close to the threshold that it wouldn't be to hard to go in and grab him but just as Raph was stepping closer Donnie shakily threw up a hand to stop him, silently communicating it was too dangerous for anyone to enter. but that also meant it was too volatile for him to be breathing that stuff in as well, his coughs and wheezes highlighting the fact.

"Donnie! come on you can do it!" Mikey tried to coax him out of the toxic environment. But this gas must've been messing with his head because he didn't move, he didn't move a single muscle, he was quaking and trembling but he's paralysed in fear. Its like that brilliant mind of his simply shut down and in the state he's currently in that isn't good at all. His eyelids falter with ill exhaustion and his entire body trembles in agonizing nausea.

Leo steps forward to the point where he can just come into contact with the purple coloured air without breathing in too much of it. he looks Donnie in the eye, a stare of concerned determination meeting a grey petrified one "Dontron look at me. You can do this. You can take that step, I know you can" with his final conscious decision the purple clad turtle raised his foot and stepped as outwards as possible, the sudden energy being used to get away from the situation, as his eyes closed without much of a fight he fell limply into Leo's open arms. catching him and holding him in a gentle but affirming grasp.

"Phew! we got him" the look of relief on Mikey and Raph's faces were immense. knowing his brothers needs Mikey left to go retrieve an emergency care kit they kept in the kitchen.

Leo looked down at the twin in his arms, noticing Donnie was unconscious panic rose within him but before jumping into action he spoke softly towards his brother "great job D. we'll take it from here... RIGHT! Raph! we need this poor nerd transported to the couch stat!-"

Leo continued to bark orders until Dee was as comfy as possible. after that the truncated group dawned their regularly used hazmat suits and inspected the lab for the cause of this accident, it seemed like a vile of some chemical that was labelled 'Xenon' with a few worrying symbols next to it that the brothers couldn't figure out what was supposed to mean.

After a thorough yet unprofessional inspection to make sure nothing else was brewing toxic chemicals it was decided that someone should return to the living room to watch over Donnie.

Ofcourse, the ever caring Leo insisted himself for the task ; preaching about 'twin laws' and all that jazz.

"Oh Doniieee you awake yet?" he strode into the room with his nonchalant sing-songy voice and immediately laid eyes on his tech wiz brother sat up in his seat, eyes open and looking around timmedly "Leo-?"

"Dee! your up!" His voice was full of pleasant surprise, quickening his pace he swiftly hopped over the side of Splinter's armchair sitting close to the sofa and was soon directly in front of his twin brother. during the movement Donnie's head turned towards every little sound Leo made, from the shuffling of his feet on the floor to the near silent scrape of the chair leg when it was pushed. though his pupils didn't move in such a similar pattern.

Even when Leo was directly in front of Donnie he wasn't making any attempt at eye contact ; not that he was great at that anyway, but now he was staring right through him like a ghost.

Leo noticed this and the medic part of his brain kicked into full gear "Dee? can you see me alright?" he got directly in his brother's line of sight and studied his eyes, noting the grey coloration as medical alarm bells pierced through his mind.

Donnie seemed to flinch at how loud and close Leo's voice suddenly was, covering his ears and shying away for a brief moment "Well it would help if you turned some lights on 'Nardo!" he grumbled like it was the most obvious solution in the world.

Leo sighed, which Donnie heard and realised he should feel bad for snapping a little, "Leo um-" he began but was cut off by the real reason for his blue brothers disheartened mood. the facts spinning around Leo's head aligning to the reality of the situation.

"The lights are on Donnie..." his tone was quiet and so very somber, rather unlike Leo.

"What? w-well that must mean-"

"Im sorry Dee"
