Mikey and Raph had just finished 'disposing' of that chemical Donnie was using.
They were on their way back through the sewer pipes after chucking the vial into a nearby barren-looking alleyway. so that it wouldn't cause any further incidents. Walking into the door to the living room the red and orange turtles found quite the scene.
Leo was doing plenty of different 'tests' with Donnie in order to judge something about his eyes. These tests were carried out by a professional and were of the highest scientific quality-
"Okay Donnie... HOW MANY FINGERS AM I HOLDING UP?? HOW MANY?"
Unsurprisingly the younger twin was having none of it.
"Leo stop you know i cant see it, guessing only gives me a 16.66 chance of being correct."
Leo's voice grew serious as he leaned closer to Donnie, though the other didn't realise it so the proximity had little affect to aid his threat like tone "Just. Guess."
done with his brothers shit awhile ago while also becoming increasingly annoyed at how loud peoples voices are and that he'd only just noticed now. Donnie just grumbled and decided to humour his brother, though still doing the necessary math and estimates the most viable option. so more of an educated guess he supposes.
"Ugh... 3?"
Leo's eyes grew in exaggerated surprise as he straightened his stance, only now addressing Raph and Mikey despite noticing when they came but was too focused on trying to shine light into Donnie's eye (failing due to proximity issues) "My brothers! you see Donatello is perfectly fine and able to see us clear as day-"
the sound of a painful thud on the ground behind them caused the end to Leo's hardly reassuring rambles.
Apparently, whether to prove a point or not, Donnie had stood up from his comfy spot on the couch, tried to walk forward but 'clearly' didn't see the coffee table in front of him and is now plastron first to the floor in the small gap between the couch and the table.
"Ughhh" he groaned out of pain and annoyance.
"I hate being blind already."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
After picking their poor brother up off the floor by a handle extending from his battle shell, checking he didn't gain any injuries and promptly placing him back on the cushion infested couch, to his dismay.
It was officially 'big brother Raph's' turn to freak out and panic in his ultimately very undignified manner. He proceeded to anxiously dance around the sofa with his large structure shaking the ground when he stomped in his annoyed-concerned orbit.
to say his 'nervous stink' was strong would've been an understatement to Donnie now that all of his senses ( -sight ) were exponentially heightened, if his own issues didn't give him enough sensory grief on their own, now Raph's small earthquakes, emotional stench and booming voice was it own personal hell. great, even more sensory complexity than normal.
"How could this happen Donnie? I thought you were careful with your experimen-ts-st" Raph began to scold his brother in his mistake but Donnie had zoned out while he was talking. Trying to unfocus on every little thing he could feel and smell and taste and hear and... see. despite the abyss he was now plunged into for sight there were still small, fuzzy, little white shapes and formations like a TV gone static. there wasn't anything recognizable despite how much he tried to focus into the haze that clouded his only vision.
At this point Raph paused in his pacing for a moment to throw both arms in his younger brothers direction. Mikey and Leo look to each other with nervous eyes in the knowledge that physical expression wouldn't make a difference to their newly blind brother, the small grimace on Mikey's face showing just how concerned he really was. as if the empathetic brother saw all of the stressful crack in Donnie mind with every new sound.
by the time Donnie had tried to tune back in to the lecture Raph just kept ranting about the issue, his voice too loud and full of worry for his purple brother, everytime Raph would step a little closer to Donnie, his voice would get a little louder and the blind turtle would get a little more stressed out. this is one of those time he really wished that the world had a volume button that he could turn down and everything would be so much better, maybe he could actually listen to what Raph was saying if he wasn't busy enough trying to relax his tense shoulders and consciously stop grinding his teeth in an attempt to stop the world from moving.
It was at this time which he really wanted Leo or Mikey to recognise his discomfort and step in, preferably stopping Raph in his torturous concern spiral, sadly he wasn't granted such support.
"And why would you-?!" there it goes again, he booming voice shattering his final drop of tolerance. Despite his lack of vision he stood up and tried to leave, using the touch of his ankles against the table and couch to avoid tripping on invisible objects again. "Donnie?! where are you-" there it goes again, Raph's voice blending in with all the other irritations in this room.
He kept walking, desperate to escape this situation and get somewhere quieter, then he could have a breakdown about the situation in peace. truth be told the only thing keeping him from coming to that cruel realisation was the fact that he was so overstimulated currently. things got a little trickier when he ran out of leather couch to use for direction but thankfully, living in the same place for your entire life gifts you a very accurate internal compass-
BAM!
Okay... semi-accurate. to be fair, someone shouldnt have moved the wall there. turns out he did rely quite heavily on his sight for navigation.
In his failed attempt to flee, Mikey finally realised what he wanted and walked up to him in offer to help "Who was that?" the sudden shake of fear in Donnie's voice caught Mikey off guard so he retracted his arm. Donnie had flinched at the sound of moving feet and Mikey failing to announce his proximity with a vocal warning. "Stop moving I don't know where you are." Clearly things were going to change a little to accomodate for their newly blind brother. bu they can figure this all out later.
For now though, mikey realises his mistake and quickly rectified the situation with a lower voice "H-hey Dee dont worry its just me. the caution lifted from his voice when he noticed Donnie's shoulders relax slightly " do you want me to guide you to your room?"
Despite how much he hated accepting this much help. The logic in his brain knew trying to navigate the corridors alone would likely result in more unnecessary pain than if someone where to guide him through, much preferably Mikey than either other brother, considering Rap was out of the question currently.
"I suppose i'll allow it" Donnie spoke towards his youngest brother standing to his left.
"Uh Dee?" mikey, stood to his right, wasn't really sure how to tell his brother he was facing the wrong direction without sounding belittling, "Im over here."
Quickly changing the way he faced out of embarrassment he tried to cover up his mistake "I-uh , right, yes of course..."
Even without seeing it, Donnie could feel the tension in the room. But he what he couldn't see was the pure death stares Leo was sending the now silent Raph's way.
"We should go.. you ready Donnie?" Mikey could not only feel but also see the steam coming out of Leo's non-existent ears. Wth a swift nod of approval, Mikey was about to reach for Donnie's arm to guide him, Then hesitating.
"Dee? can I take your hand and guide you?"
after another moment of hesitation that was agonizing for everyone involved, Donnie looked unsure but braced himself and muttered a small, uncharastically scared "Mhm yeah go for it." He tried to sound more nonchalant but couldn't bring himself to be any more expressive.
