The Austrian Grand Prix - the home of the bulls, which not only means a lot of pressure for me to perform well this weekend, but it also entails a tonne of media and PR stuff that I really don't want to do.
Starting with getting on this really dodgy looking airplane that I wouldn't be surprised if it randomly dropped out of the sky, trapped inside with the three people who are likely going to talk my ear off and annoy me when all I want is to go back to my bed and sulk like I've been doing all week.
It's clear to say I've not been taking the news very well. I always thought that when I'd meet my father they would be kind and welcoming, full of apologies and excuses about why they weren't there. But instead I was left with my mother as a shell of the woman she is, and an ungodly amount of media since they decided to hash it out in front of the freaking world.
Yuki and Pierre are the first to get on the death trap, with the shorter of the two beaming with excitement.
"Goodbye everyone." Max jokingly waved to the media team behind us, blocking the entrance.
"Move your arse. The quicker we're in, the quicker we're off and the quicker this is over." I roll my eyes, giving his back a light push but his solid frame doesn't budge.
"Play nice." He glares down at me, moving his eyebrows to try and be intimidating but it only makes him look even more stupid - something I didn't think was possible.
He moves in, crouching down so his big ass forehead doesn't smack off of the ceiling, taking the seat behind Yuki and leaving me behind Pierre.
Whilst I'm strapping up the pilot gives us instructions, but I can't help zone out slightly, that is until he passes back an iPad with Helmuts face on it. They've even managed to rope in the big boss.
The video begins and I give it my full attention. It's clear that he's reading off of some lousy script, giving us some instructions for the rest of the media event.
"Normally when Helmut is sitting like that you have a problem." Max leans forward pointing at the screen, making everyone laugh lightly. I've never been pulled in to have a telling off before, the closest thing I've had is a warning to play nice with Max, but that's because I know that my seat is a lot less valuable in their perspective so I have more of a responsibility to keep my nose in line.
"The best way for you to know Austria is to race around it. Team Redbull racing against Team Alphatauri." Oh great, looks like I'm stuck working with Max for the full time.
"It's on." I smile leaning forward to tickle Pierre's sides. He instantly flinches trying to get away but the seatbelt stops him.
"No, no, stop." He cries out in between laughs which doesn't help him at all, the rest of us in the plane cackling at his antics, but I do stop when the plane begins to take off, scared that any sort of movement might make the tin can crash.
Austria looks stunning from up in the sky, the luscious greenery and reflective lakes look like the perfect picture of zen, which is how I would've felt had the pilot not decided to turn the plane so crazily, making Yuki and I scream at times much to our teammates amusement.
Landing on water isn't exactly ideal in my opinion, probably because I recently watched a documentary about the plane landing in the Hudson River. So as we are approaching closer and closer to the tranquil lake I could feel my panic ride higher in my chest. I fidget with the armrest, hoping it can distract me, but since this plane is so small wherever I look I can just see the blue of the waters.
Max placing his warm hands in mine we're not what I was expecting, his left completely capturing my right. Instinctively I turn to face him to see him already staring at me, his blue eyes distracting my from the blues of the water just in time as there's a small bump followed my the sound of spray. The shock on my face must be evident as I see a small flicker in the corner of his mouth before his hand is gone alongside his eyes, turning to the Alphatauri boys instead.
