Jake's POV

There was sweat dripping down my back, I was breathing heavy and everything was blurry.

I had another nightmare. I used to get them all the time when I was little. They weren't scary as in monsters, they were about me getting abandoned. Left alone, by myself. No one had ever left my life but I was scared they might.

I looked at the clock.

5:30am

I had an hour until I had to get up for school. I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn't.

I laid there until my alarm went off at six thirty.

I got up out of bed and went to the bathroom. I was about to get in the shower when I got a phone call.

Le

Leanna? Why was she calling me so early. I felt so bad for her the last week after what Liam said, but I didn't know what to say. So I think she got mad.

I answered it and in a panicked voice she said, " Jake could you pick me up for school? My car has a flat and my stupid brother won't pick up the phone."

"Yeah just send me your location and I'll be there."

"I'm really sorry. My moms at work already and I have no one else to call."

"No Le it's ok I promise. I'll talk to you later."

Then she hung up. I was kind of confused. Did she really have no one else. She had said that before but I didn't believe her. Le is so pretty and nice I just can't get why people wouldn't like her.

I jumped in the shower and got out. I grabbed my towel from the hook on the wall. I walked into my room and went to my closet.

I threw on a t-shirt and some sweatpants. I grabbed my stuff off the bar and went outside.

I started driving towards the location Leanna had sent me.

It was only about ten minutes away from my house. She was standing outside. She looked up with a shy smile and walked to the passenger side of my truck.

I leaned across the console to open the door for her.

"Jake thank you so much, I'm literally so so sorry." She looked embarrassed. "I just had no one else to ask." I felt bad for Le.

"Leanna it's ok you can ask me anytime I live ten minutes away from here."

As she set her stuff in the floor bored I handed her my aux cord.

"What's this for?"

"You're gonna dj Le."

"No I don't have good music."

"Well I'll be the judge of that."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"No she's not." Seth said. I was talking to the rest of my basketball team about girls we thought were hot.
"Well Jake totally has a thing for Leanna Tanner." Liam Andrews, that's who said that about Le yesterday.
"No I don't Andrews. We're just friends." I thought Le was maybe a little cute but we were friends and I was ok with that.
"You're such a liar Jake. I mean I don't blame you, she's hot and she even looks like she puts out. Is that what this is, a friends with benefits type thing." He laughed. Everyone else went silent, they could see I was mad.
"Shut your fucking mouth Andrews." How could he say that about Leanna.
"Or what Jake?" He scoffed.
"You're a piece of shit Andrews, I hope you know that." I walked really close to him.
Then my fist collided with his face. Liam fell to the ground. His nose was bleeding and everyone was in shock.
Someone had went and got the principle. I was about to walk off when I got called to the office.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So it's just ok for Liam to say that kind of bullshit and get away with it?" I was currently yelling at the principal of my high school.

"Mr Smith language. And no it's not but you hit him. You have five days of detention and Mr Andrews has two." I was fuming but I couldn't let Le find out what Liam had said.

I had been in enough fights to know that damage control is important too.  She couldn't hear about this. I stormed out of the front office to go to class.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sat down in algebra. I'm not good at math, like at all. This was my last class of the day. Then I get to take Leanna home. I didn't see her in lunch, but on the way to school she said something about studying during her lunch period.
I set through algebra and then the bell finally rang. I walked out into the main hall to go put my books in my locker. As I walked out I saw Le standing by her locker, I walked over to her.
"Hey Le." She had a straight face.
"You got in a fight. Really Jake?" Her face faded into a sad look.
"It wasn't really a fight I just hit Liam once. He was out of line and being an ass." She rolled her eyes. Was she mad at me?
"First off don't cuss around me." I realized I hadn't cussed around Le at all since I met her.
"Ok I won't."
"Second off why did you hit him? Liam isn't worth your time."  She didn't even know why and she was mad. I couldn't tell her, it would break her heart.
"He said stuff he shouldn't have."
"What did he say Jake? Huh?" She was actually mad at me.
"Please quit Leanna. It was just rude stuff."
"No you made me tell you what he said about me. So what did he say Jake?"  I was getting mad, if she wanted to know so bad then fine.
"You're not going to quit are you?" She shook her head.
I sighed, "Liam Andrews said the only reason I talked to you is cause you put out!" I was frustrated, so I yelled at Leanna.
I could see her heart break right there in front of me. Tears started to well up in her eyes.
She walked out of school as fast as she could without drawing attention to herself.
I went after her, she was standing by my truck.
"Le I'm sorry I know it's awful" she cut me off. "Unlock you truck, Jake, you're taking me home. "Ok but" she did it again. "Don't talk to me either."
We got in the truck and she looked at me and we made eye contact. That's when the tears started to stream down her face. She leaned over the console and rested her head on my chest.
"I'm sorry Jake. It's just no one at this school cares enough to find out who I actually am so they make stuff up about me.
"Please, Leanna, they're not worth it. You know the truth, I know the truth, so what does it matter what Liam Andrews thinks." She nodded and we just set there.
