V met JungKook at the training ground; they both had their armour with them just in case. They grasped forearms and embraced, it was a longer than usual hug, one which conveyed how both of them had been worried they wouldn't see each other again.
"You really had all of us scared there, you know?" JK said without smiling.
"My bad man, wasn't my intention." Then they both laughed.
"It's just good to have you back."
"Good to be back; now shall we?"
"Let's." JungKook drew his sai blades.
They danced around each other clashing blades, it was clear after only a few steps that V was slower than usual. JungKook who would usually struggle to best V did not have such trouble today. Even noticing he tired more easily.
"I'm sorry," V said, stepping back, stretching his arm and shoulder out.
"Nothing sorry TaeHyung, you could've died, you almost did. You're doing fine, I just wish we weren't heading into battle. Maybe..."
"Don't even suggest it JungKookie," he teased, "there's no way in hell I'm staying back."
"I figured you'd say that. Just maybe try to stay out of too much trouble."
"We're going to war, it's literally all going to be trouble."
"Fair point." JungKook laughed. They sheathed their blades.
"JungKook?"
"Yea?"
"Promise me one thing." JK didn't reply, he just waited. "If I can't watch her back, that you will."
"Of course. You know I will, we all will."
"No, but you know what I mean."
"I do," and JungKook nodded, stepping forward and grasping V's forearm in a sign of affection. JK had never really seen V look scared but it was written plain and simple on his face then; which V quickly covered with his expressionless mask. It was then that JK realized he hadn't seen V use it much anymore, his creepily emotionless poker face. Wondering if O had helped bring on that change.
They walked back towards the town, "I'm assuming we'll be spearheading the whole thing."
"You'd expect nothing less now would you?" JungKook smiled but it was an apprehensive smile.
V just laughed, "From RM? no not really."
"She's going to be at the front with us, you know?"
"Oh I know." V rolled his eyes. "As if there is anywhere else O would be," and now he laughed.
They embraced once more and JungKook ran off to ensure that the weapons being handed out were up to standard.
V went back to find Orailia, which wasn't hard considering she was in his backyard arguing with Coa. Who clearly refused to wear the armour.
"Please, just wear it, any bit of extra protection. You wont kill anyone but that wont stop them from trying to kill you."
V couldn't hear Coa's reply but realized he was conceding as O picked up the armour and began to buckle it on to him.
"Now don't you look smart." V nodded at Coa. To which all he got was a grumble and a lifting of gums to show his teeth. Wrapping his arms around O from behind and pressing his face into her neck, "It's been like only an hour but I swear I've missed you already."
Laughing, she turned and tip-toed to kiss him. "You really are a sap, you know that Mr. Kim TaeHyung."
He just smiled at her, stars in his eyes. "I really need a nap before we go," he whispered in her ear.
