About 6 months later, Rachel is living in Canada. Rachel kept in touch with Arcadia Bay by reading news articles. One morning she gets a notification on her phone about a local teacher being arrested. The picture that she saw piqued her interest in Jefferson and Nathan's arrest. As she read on, she couldn't believe it. Mark Jefferson was finally caught; she felt that she could come back to Arcadia bay. She was so happy to go back and finally see Chloe again since she realized that when she was with Chloe, she was a bit manipulative and wanted Chloe to forgive her and to know that she had matured over the time they didn't see each other. As she books a flight she packs her things and moves back to arcadia bay. On the same street, she lived with her parents. As she tries to keep a low profile she meets a guy who seemed upset, they exchanged eye contact now and then over the month Rachel had recently moved back to arcadia bay but it didn't seem that this guy didn't know who Rachel was. It was a Friday when she saw him at the empty beach, so she went up to him. She asked "What's your name?" But he didn't reply and kept looking into the distance watching the water rise and go back down the sand. Rachel didn't say her name either since she was scared of being noticed, after a few minutes of silence Rachel asks "Why are you so quiet?" He replied with, “The girl that I love is dating someone else.” Rachel didn't know how to respond and just splattered out “That must suck.” He replies with “Yeah…" "Me and Chloe aren't friends anymore, we're in a relationship.” he said mockingly. Rachel started feeling confused but then she remembered that Chole talked about a girl named Max who was her only friend who had left for Seattle. She realized that Max must've come back during the time that she was gone. Out of nowhere, Rachel asks the guy if he would like to go to her house. He was surprised yet weirded out by this girl who is a stranger to him who for some reason looked familiar just asking such a question. As she realizes how weird it sounded she tries to reassure him that it wasn't for anything creepy and that she just wanted to talk to him properly about what he just mentioned and how she was connected to Chloe and Max. He is reluctant but then notices that he never mentioned Max's name, so he finally agrees to go to her house.
