【 the sujin mystery 】
naeun nervously stared at her phone, as she contemplated sending her message to jaemin. they hadn't spoken in a week, and naeun's mind had been filled with thoughts about how she could reach out and reconnect with jaemin, without seeming too desperate or invasive.
she finally decided to send the message, with trembling fingers. as she read through her words once again, her heart began to race. her text was short and to the point, but she hoped that it would get jaemin's attention, and make him want to reach back out to her.
naeun's heart jumped into her throat, as jaemin suddenly replied to her message before she could unsent it. she felt both relieved and stressed, as she immediately read his text message.
as she read jaemin's reply, she felt a mix of emotions washing over her. on one hand, she was excited and relieved that he had replied to her message. on the other hand, she felt panicked and embarrassed, as she realized that jaemin must be wondering why she had sent him a message in the first place...
naeun felt herself starting to sweat, as she quickly read jaemin's message.
as she processed his words, she felt completely overwhelmed, as she started to panic. jaemin was right, it had been a long time since she had hit him up, and she had no idea how to respond to his comment.
"uhm... well, uhm..." she nervously stickered for a moment, before sending a quick message back. she tried to play it cool and act like she had been busy or occupied over the past week...
naeun took a deep breath, as she quickly typed out her reply to jaemin's text message.
oh, you know... just been doing my usual stuff, she texted. it's been pretty busy recently, with school and all.
she hit send, and felt a surge of relief wash over her. she had successfully sent a message back to jaemin, without making herself sound too desperate or clingy. now, she just had to wait and see how jaemin would reply, as her heart still pounded with anxiety.
jaemin replied almost instantly, sending naeun's heart soaring. he replied with another message, asking,
wait, are we really in the same class? which one?
naeun felt a smile spreading across her face, as she quickly replied, explaining,
yeah, we're in professor lee's english literature class.
she hit send, and waited for jaemin's response. her heart beat a little faster, as she couldn't believe how easy and natural the conversation was beginning to feel...
jaemin quickly replied, sending naeun a message back.
that's weird... i don't really know any su-jin in my classes either.
naeun felt her eyes widen, as she read jaemin's words. could it be possible that jaemin actually hadn't known her? if he didn't even know her full name, then he must not think of her as a possible love interest.
she began to feel devastated and embarrassed... how could she have been so clueless about all of this?
naeun quickly typed out another message, backpedaling as she tried to save face.
sorry, that's just a nickname my friends gave me as a joke, she sent. sujin is just a shortened version of my real name.
she hit send, and then felt even more embarrassed as she realized that she had just been caught in a lie. what had she been thinking? she should have just told him the truth in the first place...
