Momentarily Taken

I woke up feeling like I was being watched by someone. I kept completely still and made sure to listen, I heard breathing but then heard a pair of footsteps approach. “Oooh yes, he would perfectly fit into the ministry Kane. Undertaker will be pleased if we bring him to him.” I heard a voice screech annoyingly. I stayed quiet, unsure what to do If I fought, they might send everyone after me and follow me home which I couldn’t risk, but if I allow myself to be taken to him, he might take off my mask. I decided to be taken to him on the off chance he wouldn’t take off my mask. I felt someone throw me over their shoulder, I assumed it was the man named Kane since the round man was very unlikely able to carry me this way. Not to mention the obvious height difference between the two. I was sure to keep my breathing even, so he’d think I’m still sleeping. “Man, he sleeps heavy, I thought I’d be having to punch him in the face by now.” The man named Kane said. “Undertaker won’t like that he’ll have him work on it.” The screeching voice responded. I heard what sounded like multiple locks on a door being unlocked. I cringed knowing there was no way out once the door had been locked. I was carried over to somewhere and sat down on what I could only assume was a couch.

“Leave me, all of you,” the man who threatened me a while ago said. His deep gravelly voice rang out loudly in the quiet room. I heard a bunch of footsteps walk out of the door I had previously been carried through. “You too Paul.” His voice said again. “But Undertaker-“ Paul started to say. “Out Paul… now.” He said, I immediately heard quick footsteps follow where the others had gone. I heard movement then a hand touches my face and then down to my neck. I hissed as it burned my skin almost feeling like fire. I held my neck and my urge to yell at him knowing it would do me no good without an exit.

“What was that for?” I said, looking to his hands to see what burned me.

“You were pretending to sleep.” He said with a small smirk. I fooled everyone else but somehow not him.

“I’m a lot harder to fool, I could practically hear your mind panicking from a mile away. How do you think the boys found you, I like that dark hallway too. We’re going to have to work on that.” He sighed sitting down next to me referring to my panicking mind. I squinted at him confused at him saying “We” need to work on that. He could see the gears turning in my head and smirked at me.

“Why am I here?” I said finally taking my hand away from my neck.

“There’s something different about you. You’re not like everyone else, you don’t fear me the way they do. You’re…Curious about me. Emotionless unless I hurt you, the way I’ve just done, then you’re angry.” He said standing up to head toward a table. “Water?” He asked me, I shook my head immediately thinking he may have put something in it, making him chuckle.

“If I wanted to hurt you, I would’ve done it by now.” He said chuckling at my paranoid state. My eyes widened ‘Did I say that out loud?’ I asked myself in my head, confused and unsure what to do.

“No, I can just read your incredibly loud thoughts.” He said amused. I was sure to make my head blank so he wouldn’t get any satisfaction of reading my thoughts. He smiled once again not in the slightest bit agitated like I thought he’d be. “You’re on in 5 you should be going, doors unlocked.” He said turning away smiling and walking into another connecting room. As he departed from me, part of me felt sad about it for some reason, I shook the feeling and headed towards the gorilla to make my debut.

“Where have you been? I’ve had everyone searching for you for the past ten minutes!” I heard Vince say once I entered.

“I got momentarily taken.” I said calmly. He looked at me gulping and nodding in understanding. “Did he take off your mask?” Vince asked me worried. I shook my head no, “I was outnumbered but for some reason he didn’t ask me to take it off.” I said thinking. He nodded but squinted mid thought as well. I quickly grabbed my sledgehammer from off the otherwise empty seat as I heard my music hit. My job was simple today, I just had to save Shawn from getting beat up by Austin. I ran down to the ring hitting Austin with the sledgehammer repeatedly. I kicked him to the ground and got on the top rope. I stood and walked the top rope with ease before leg dropping on Austin. I went to choke him, and my tongue stuck out of my mask making the crowd cheer. I was confused at this but decided to go for the pin. I put Michaels on Austin and Michaels won half conscious.

I helped Shawn backstage. “Good Job Matt.” Shawn said patting me on the back. As soon as he said that Undertaker came into view and looked at me oddly. He stared at me a moment but didn’t have time to do anything as his music hits. “Go home before he comes backstage, his segment is short so run.” Vince told me almost panicked. I sat Shawn down and ran to grab my things and quickly head home. I got in my car and drove out of the parking lot seeing the Undertaker watching after my car almost sadly. I felt bad as well, but I was doing this to protect myself and my family I have no choice. I got home to my girls and hugged them tightly.

“What happened?” Elizabeth asked me once we put Evelyn to bed.

“Nothing sweetheart, why do you keep asking me that?” I said chuckling. I really didn’t want her to worry I had to play this off well.

“Why do you keep looking worried? Baby if something is wrong tell me. Is it work did something happen?” She asked concerned.

“Stop worrying everything is fine Babe. I’m just tired is all. I want to get some sleep.” I said turning away from her.

“I hate when you do this Matt stop.” She said pulling my arm to turn back around.
“I want to know what to expect Matt. I can’t do anything if I don’t know what’s happening.” She continued aggravated.

“You want to know what’s happening Elizabeth. I’ll tell you what’s happening. There’s a man who looks just like me and he’s dangerous. There’s a possibility that you, me, and Evelyn could get hurt. I don’t want to leave because I don’t want to mess up this opportunity, this is all we’ve got for right now, so I have to keep that stupid white mask on so that he doesn’t try to mold me into a dark twisted image of himself. Is that what you wanted to know Elizabeth? Does that make you happy?” I shouted getting up to put my shoes back on. I hadn’t meant to snap but my anger and worry exploded and brought forth that. I knew I had overreacted, but it was too much, and I needed some air.

“Where are you going Matt?” She asked. I Ignored her walking downstairs to grab my keys and get in my truck. I was sure to grab my white mask and put it on for precaution. She knocked on the window of my truck annoyed. I rolled the window down and said half-jokingly, “If I’m not back by 11 call the police.” Before pulling off and heading towards the park to take a walk and clear my head.
