How Wrong I Was

I got up the next morning with a slight headache. My phone rung loudly, and I quickly grabbed it tired of hearing the annoying tone directly next to my ear. I answered the phone with a tired hello slowly sitting up with the attempt to wake myself.

“Matt he’s taken Stephanie again. I need your help, please just talk to him. He won’t listen to anyone else you’re our last option.” Vince yelled on the other side of the phone. I groaned trying to piece together what he had told me.

“Who took Stephanie?” I asked, slowly getting out of bed.

“The Undertaker, he’s the only crazy and twisted person who would do something like this.” Vince said so fast I barely caught it.

I paused momentarily but muttered a ‘I’m on my way.’ I quickly got dressed and was heading out the door before my phone rang again. I couldn’t even get out a hello before the voice spoke on the other end. “Matt stay out of it, I don’t want you to get hurt.” Mark stated. “I have no choice, Vince called me Mark, if I don’t show I could lose my job.” I said to him unsure. “How did you know he called?” I spoke again confused. “I know lots of things Matt, many things I shouldn't know. Listen, just stay out of this.” He spoke again. I don't respond to him. His voice sounded scarily calm for someone who had just been accused of what he had been accused of. However, it was only momentarily as I heard his voice snap back through the phone. “Stay out of it I said!” He growled at me before hanging up. I sighed knowing I had no choice but to disobey him. My job is important I need to be there to keep it, especially if the boss is angry.

Soon enough I was pulling into the parking lot of the wrestling arena. I quickly made my way in to find Vince in his office with his head in his hands. “You alright boss?” I said sitting across from him on the couch as he sat in his office chair. “I have to get Stephanie back Matt.” He mumbled. “I’ll go get her Vince, I’ll figure it out and get her back before he does anything. Once I do… have a car ready to get out of here. He’ll be angry and I’d rather have him take it out on me.” I said standing up. Vince nodded reluctantly at me and took out his phone to call a car.

I headed out to look in all the dark halls he may be in. It didn’t take long before I heard yelling from the boiler room. I ran to the door as lightly as I could, once I got inside the yelling became worst. I was sure to stay on the wall trying to stick to the dark as much as possible. I was sure to shut off any thoughts just in case Mark was nearby. I finally got a good view of Mark’s minions as I hid behind some pipes. I saw Stephanie curled in a ball as they all crowded around her laughing and yelling.

My eyes flicked around trying to find an idea to distract or get them away from her. My eyes then met with a door that was slightly opened only a dim light in sight. Without a second thought I ran for it and quickly looked for a place to hide or any sort of dark corner. I was starting to see surprisingly well in the dark, better than I ever remember being able too. I was able to see a connecting room and ran for it slamming the door behind me knowing they heard me come in the first one. They started beating on the door and yelling for me to show myself. I looked around once again for a way to get me out of this knowing I needed to think fast. My eyes landed on Mark’s long black cloak and a large smile made its way to my face. I quickly grabbed it and threw it on the way he normally did. I got ready to act for Stephanie, my job, and my sake. I breathed out and swung the door open giving them all the most menacing stare I could muster. They all paused and started to apologize profusely saying they thought I was someone else. I ignored them the way I knew he would and walked back to Stephanie who stared up at me with slight confusion, but still evident fear.

“Go get her old man, he’s in the office.” I said looking between all of them.

“Does it take all of us boss?” Furoq asked confused.

“I said all of you didn’t I Furoq? Now go and do what I asked you too.” I said faking anger. It must have worked because all of them left quickly, even Paul hurried away. As soon as I heard the door shut, I turned to Stephanie and took the hood off showing her my blue hair.

“I’m here to help Stephanie.” I said helping her up. She nodded and followed me out as I put the hood back on my head. We both searched the arena for Vince’s car and finally found it at the garage parking entrance. I took off Mark’s cloak and ran Stephanie to Vince, pushing her in the car as kindly as I could while I was panicking. My head started to burn, which meant he was nearby and likely saw Steph and is most definitely very angry.

“Go!” I yelled. The car sped off narrowly missing the acolytes who had just appeared. I got pulled back by the hair and Mark harshly whispered in my ear. “I told you to stay out of it Matt.”

“You told me that they turned on you… liar.” I hissed back angrily.

“We reconciled.” He said back menacingly. I gritted my teeth and gave the angriest stare I could.

“I thought I knew you, obviously not. We’re not alike nor the same, I never would’ve done anything like this. You’re a jerk, you can keep your necklace, your stupid powers, and your memories of us. I wish to share nothing with you ever again, I hate what you’ve become. Everyone just has to fear you, don't they. Even me you want me to fear you.” I said.

“Never you, I never want you to fear me, were equal. Someone has to be the antagonist Matty.  ” He stated nonchalantly. His grip loosened and he turned me to look him in the eyes. “Join us.” He demanded more than he asked. I shook my head angrily not able to find the words, and he looked disappointed before the look turned angry. His eyes glowed and before I knew it, I fell into his arms and my eyes closed.
