2. Questions to research about Recycling:
1. How much recyclable material is being thrown away?
An average middle-class American family is likely to waste or consume about 1 million pounds of materials annually. The extent of the lack of recyclable material used is not entirely clear, but on a scale of one through ten, I'd give it a seven. It is known that most of society often forgets about the blue bins or lacks the time to categorize items.
2. What is the percentage of people who recycle?
About 67% of adults say they recycle aluminum or metal cans, while 59% recycle paper and 57% recycle plastic. Additionally, about half of the adults recycle glass. Society seems to have a lack of recycling, with approximately 76% of the population not recycling as they should.
2. Questions to research about Trash:
1. How much trash is in the ocean?
Americans generate 10.5 million tons of plastic waste every year but recycle only 1 or 2% of it. An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash, most of it plastic, is dumped in the world's oceans annually.
2. How is trash disposed?
Trash production in the United States has almost tripled since 1960. This trash is handled in various ways: about 32.5 percent of the trash is recycled or composted, 12.5 percent is burned, and 55 percent is buried in landfills. The amount of trash buried in landfills has doubled since 1960.
