"I love you, Donna."
A year ago, Lady Tremaine thought she had everything. She thought living a lavish and wealthy life was everything, that sleeping on golds and drowning in diamonds were everything she could ever want in life but hearing those three words tonight, at this very moment, proved her wrong.
Oh, how wrong she was. Those three words, including her name, echoed repeatedly in her ears, as if to always remind her, to never allow her to forget about it or the woman who said it to her.
For a moment, she thought back of the things that happened in her life in a span of one year. She and her daughters were banished from the southern kingdom, to never step foot on it again. A year of karma and despair embraced her. She and her daughters moved to reside in the countryside, expecting to hate the place, to disgust it but just like now, she was proven wrong.
She met an ethereally beautiful woman named Caroline who turned out to be their new neighbor and the owner of the house. An ethereally beautiful woman named Caroline who befriended her, who made her cheeks turn red with her flirtatious looks and teasing, who made her heart flutter with simple touches and longing stares from across the room, who kissed her.
It was ridiculous to think, foolish even but Caroline made her feel young and beautiful again. They both made each other feel young and beautiful. With their mutual pining, with all the hiding and sneaking around, with all the stolen looks and kisses.
They were the opposites of each other yet they were so alike in so many ways, they completed each other, they belonged together. Now, Lady Tremaine never believed in soulmates or love stories but if she was given the chance to relive her youthful days in another life, she would look for Caroline and fall back into her arms. She would want Caroline to be her soulmate in every single life they have.
Returning back to reality, Madonna stared at Caroline who looked at her with the same look she always had over their days together. She looked at Madonna as if she was the most beautiful woman to ever walk this land and it made Madonna ask herself, and the heavens, it made her ask whatever has she done to deserve Caroline in her life.
"I love you." Caroline repeated but softer and more quiet than her first confession, her cheeks turned bright red, spreading across her face. A shy and nervous smile formed on her lips.
Madonna smiled, like a silly girl whose cheeks are red as a rose. She opened her mouth to speak but Caroline, always her nervous Caroline, started rambling before she could say a word.
"I understand if you do not feel the same way, you do not need to say it back. I am only making my—"
"I do believe that I feel the same way, Caroline."
Madonna gently said, her words startled Caroline and the brunette could only stare dumbfounded at her, eyes slightly wide, face growing redder. The red-haired woman chuckled upon noticing the goofy smile on Caroline's lips grow wider.
She took Caroline's hand, intertwining their fingers "But I cannot bring myself to say those words yet. I do hope that you understand and in time, I will be able to say it back to you." she brought Caroline's hand to her lips and pressed a kiss against it.
Caroline nodded "I understand and I am willing to wait, very willing, actually." she chuckled and bit her lower lip, trying to contain her happiness but miserably failed by pulling Madonna down for another kiss "I love you." she murmured between kisses, making Madonna's lips hot.
Madonna smiled against Caroline's lips, her hand finding the pendant she gave that sat nicely on the brunette's chest "Beautiful." she whispered "My beautiful Caroline." she lowered herself once more and pressed a chaste kiss on Caroline's lips.
