The evening wind knocked on their window, along with the white snow that fell from the sky. In their dark bedroom, Caroline sat awake, holding a book between her palms, a small lit candle sat on the nightstand near her as she read.

Beside her, Madonna slept peacefully. The woman had one arm wrapped around Caroline, preventing her from leaving their bed. It always did feel sweet and comforting whenever Madonna refused to let go of her even when she was asleep.

Caroline turned the page of her book but her eyes landed on the woman beside her instead and she couldn't help the smile that formed on her lips as she stared at her wife lovingly, with so much adoration in her eyes, so much love and pride.

Even asleep, Madonna looked beautiful. Without any make-up covering her features, she looked more mature and soft. Caroline loved tracing her features when she slept, memorizing every detail about her love, sometimes kissing them.

This time, she couldn't resist, so she placed her book away and leaned down, dropping a kiss on the bridge of Madonna's nose, causing the woman to stir awake from the gesture. Madonna's blue eyes fluttered open slowly before they focused on the woman that covered her whole vision, her shoulders immediately relaxed when she saw it was only Caroline, she pulled the woman closer to her, nuzzling comfortably against her side.

Caroline smiled softly at her lover and started to gently caress her red hair, fingers combing through her curls "I love you." she whispered.

Madonna stared at the brunette in disbelief but leaned towards the hand that caressed her hair, she closed her eyes "Is that your way of apologizing for waking me up, my love?"

The brunette giggled sweetly and shook her head "I apologize for waking you, Donna, I didn't mean to." she said softly to her lover, kissing her cheek.

The red-haired woman hummed, blue eyes glassy from sleep but sparkling under the warm light from the lamp on the nightstand. Madonna gazed into Caroline's eyes lovingly, a smile forming on her lips as she stared at her lover.

In that moment, Madonna knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Caroline. She was willing to throw away everything just to be by her lover's side, to keep her, to want her, to love her.

She spoke the words she couldn't believe she did;

"Will you marry me?"

Caroline stared at her with wide eyes, her smile stuck on her face, startled by the question. The brunette softened and chuckled, leaning down, nuzzling the tip of her nose on the bridge of Madonna's, grinning from ear to ear, placing a hand over Madonna's cheek.

"Of course, Donna. I'll marry you."

Madonna breathed a sigh of relief, she smiled and pulled Caroline closer, pressing their lips together. Butterflies filled her stomach, her heart fluttering stupidly in love and giddy in her chest.

"You mean it?" Madonna softly asked.

Caroline nodded, pressing her forehead against Madonna's, the tips of their noses touching "I mean it, Donna. I'd marry you in a heartbeat."

The moment felt surreal to her, Madonna felt like she was dreaming, she felt like there was gold rushing in her blood, making things much more magical. She smiled, kissing Caroline "I do not have any ring yet, my darling."

Caroline shook her head "How about you give me that ring when you come back to me?" she softly whispered, caressing Madonna's cheek.

Madonna nodded "I promise. I love you."

"I love you too, my dear." said Caroline.

That peaceful night, they slept in each other's arms, limbs tangled underneath the blanket, with smiles on their faces, dreaming together.
