a couple hours later, we had to head back to the hotel to retrieve our luggage and hop on the van, off to the next tour stop. the next show was at birmingham, so we were gonna be on the road for about two and a half hours. i wasn't tired, since i'd slept for a while, so i was wide awake in the van. leandra and zoe, on the other hand, fell asleep immediately. mark was driving, leaving will, ash, joe and i to entertain ourselves.
"someone play some music," ash suggested.
"can i?" i asked. it was time to annoy my new friends with my fangirl habits.
"go for it." apparently the van was old, so it had no bluetooth. thus, we settled for simply listening straight from my phone.
i pressed shuffle on my playlist. the first song that came on was "whyd you only call me when youre high?" by arctic monkeys.
"good song choice!" ash said, smiling.
"hell yeah," i responded and he held his hand up for a high five, which i reciprocated. "i love this song."
Now it's three in the mornin' and I'm tryin' to change your mind
Left you multiple missed calls and to my message you reply
"Why'd you only call me when you're high?"
"Hi, why'd you only call me when you're high?"
"they just get it," i continued.
"too real," ash replied.
will and joe were listening quietly, bopping their heads once in a while. the song ended after a few minutes of me fighting the urge to just start singing my heart out. "i liked that one, i mean, i like all their songs" will said, once it was over.
"it's so good, right?" i said
will knitted his eyebrows together. "you really do like them a lot, dont you?" he asked.
i was loving this. i paused my playlist before the next song could start
"love them!"
"we can tell," will said.
"their music is just amazing!" i exclaimed, a smile on my face. i proceeded to unpause the playlist. the next song that came on was "do i wanna know?", also by arctic monkeys. i let out a little squeal. "this is my song. they wrote it about me, actually," i said, excitedly.

"noone ever likes knowing" i quickly giggle, before the next lyric was sung.

Was sorta hoping that you'd stay
will looked up for a second, smiling warmly at me. this whole moment felt weirdly intimate. me playing my favourite song that i badly relate to, will who i was quite fond of smiling at me with a glimmer in his eyes.

i unconsciously looked back up at will and noticed a sort of focused expression on his face.
"this song is gonna play in my head every time i see you now," joe said, when the song ended.
i laughed, covering my mouth with the palm of my hand. the songs kept playing, more arctic monkeys, among other artists. i was zoned out, listening to the song that was currently on, when i got a text. i quickly got my phone off the table where it had been sitting this whole time. i cringed at the notification sound that had caused the volume of the music to lower for a couple seconds, mumbling a sorry before checking the text.

this dude just has some secret knowledge on how to make me blush in seconds. and he doesn't hold back on using it. i looked up from my screen, only to be met with will already gazing at me, a grin on his face and his own phone in his hands. i flashed him a downward smile.

my first glance at birmingham left good impressions. i'd never been there, so i was excited to explore. we all agreed to go out for dinner first. we ultimately decided on a sushi restaurant that we spotted next to a busy street. truth be told, i'd never had sushi before. but, this tour was all about trying new things for me.
"what?" was zoe's reaction when i confessed that this would be my first time trying sushi, when we were walking in the restaurant.
"no way you've never had sushi," leandra joined in.
"believe it or not, i haven't."
"today's your lucky day, then," she continued.
zoe ordered something for me that she claimed i was gonna like. i figured out how to use the chopsticks, after a few failed attempts that will not-so-discreetly giggled at, and i not-so-quietly told him to shut up. turns out the sushi was in fact good. added to my mental list of foods i really like. (maybe i should make that an actual list.)
