"Go ahead, pick a card."

"Y/n!" A familiar voice caught y/n's attention.

Y/n looked up from her lunch bag and smiled. "Hi, Lyney and Lynette."

"May we sit here?" Lyney asked. Lynette rolled her eyes.

"...You sit here everyday." Y/n deadpanned at him.

"Ah, it seems we do, don't we?"

"Sorry," said Lynette, "he's just like this."

"Hey!" Lyney gave her a playful jab in the side with his elbow.

"Not sorry."

She sighed. It wouldn't be a complete day without Lynette calling out Lyney's (failed) attempts at humor.

"Morning, comrades," said Childe as he seemingly appeared out of nowhere and sat next to y/n. Charlotte followed and sat next to Lyney.

An unexpected silence settled over the group.

"...Am I the only one that hates Ms. Claire? She just feels like she hates her job and wants to quit. I mean, I think she should," Childe tried to spark a conversation. Everyone in the group silently agreed, nodding their heads.

"I don't know. I thought that was just how all language arts teachers acted," Lynette surprisingly responded.

"Aw, but I'm sure you'll find a good teacher one day, Lynette!" proclaimed Charlotte.

"How soon do you think that's gonna be? We're juniors already."

While the others talked, y/n decided to talk to Lyney.

"What class do you have next?"

"Huh?" He was startled, as if he wasn't expecting her to talk to him, but flawlessly gathered his composure. "Physics."

"Lucky. I have Ms. Claire for language arts. And to think we were just talking about how bad she was," y/n muttered the end of her sentence bitterly.

After a moment of silence, Lyney fixed his glasses and asked, "Can I show you a trick?"

Y/n gave him a confused look and he added, "A magic trick."

"Oh, sure!" She loved seeing how his face seemed to light up whenever he got to show her a magic trick he'd been practicing. They were quite well done, too.

He pulled out a box of cards from his pocket and pulled out half the pile, shuffling the small deck a little.

He spread them in his hand, almost in a fan-shape, and had the cards' faces facing away from him. "Go ahead, pick a card."

Y/n gingerly took a card that was in between the middle and right side of the little card-fan.

"Memorize that for me, please."

She stared at the card for a moment. A seven of spades.

"Alright, I've got it."

He pulled a one of hearts card from the deck. "Is this your card?"

She gave an awkward cough. "Uh, no..."

"Are you sure?" Lyney asked, smiling.

Y/n looked down at the card again.

Sure enough, a large heart was displayed in the middle of the card.

"How did you—"

"Eh-te-te-shhh," he held a mock "shhh" gesture, holding his index finger to his lips. "A magician never reveals his secrets."

"Stop being corny," Lynette interjected, "anyways. Sorry, what were you saying, Childe?"

"Save me from this brutal sister of mine, y/n," he sighed dramatically.

Y/n laughed. "I'm not sure, she does offer good advice sometimes," she smiled slyly.

"Hey!"

Apologies. The chapter was barely still on Sunday. Let me know if you have suggestions on how I can improve!

Also, I'm aware of how short the chapter is. Don't worry, this chapter is just mainly to get things into motion.
