Lyney rested his chin on his palm as he listened to y/n chatter away about the project.
However, he placed more focus on how y/n's eyes glistened as she talked about the project seriously, eyes alight with a burning spark. They were sitting in a café, and the winter sunset shone on her hair brilliantly, creating a scene that Lyney wasn't able to take his eyes off of.
"...ey. Lyney."
He didn't respond.
A smack upside the head. "Lyney!" She exclaimed.
He rubbed his forehead. "Ouch..." he drawled dramatically, "what was that for?"
"Were you paying attention at all?"
"Yes!"
"You didn't even respond to your own name," she deadpanned.
"That's because I was so focused on what you were saying, I didn't know you'd be talking to me," he hated the way the lie flowed so smoothly off his tongue.
"Hm." She hummed concisely and skeptically, raising an eyebrow.
"Anyway," y/n continued—and this was one of those times Lyney was grateful she didn't pry too much into things— "I'm so glad we're almost done with the project! The weight will be taken off our shoulders, and we'll finally be able to relax!"
"Yes, I agree," he said.
She glanced at the window. "Hm... the sun's setting already," she said irritably, "I hate winter. Unless it snows. But only if it snows."
Lyney chuckled, nodding in agreement.
"I think we've done enough work for today," she said. "Let me check the actual time..."
She gasped a moment later. "Ah! We were working for eight hours! I'm so sorry, Lyney! I kept you here so long," she frowned guiltily.
"Stuck?" With you? Never. I could only be with you.
"Don't worry at all!"
"To make it up to you, would you like to go on a walk with me?"
Lynsey's cheeks and ears flushed a bright red. "Of course!"
She smiled, and Lyney thought he was going to collapse on the spot. "Yay! Let's go then!"

The trail y/n had chosen was just outside the café, and went through the streets of Fontaine with a gorgeous view of the ocean.
The sun was setting over the said ocean, illuminating the water in a brilliant vermillion, split down the middle with a gold.
Y/n shrugged off her bag and pulled her phone out of it, quickly snapping multiple pictures of the ocean sunset.
They watched in silence as the sun disappeared, the sky slowly becoming a vibrant indigo, the streets still bustling.
"Woah," mused y/n, "I could never get sick of these views, they're so pretty."
You're prettier.
Wait, what?
Lyney's cheeks immediately flushed as a reaction to his own thoughts.
What the hell was that?
No, there was no way Lyney could be having feelings for his very good friend, who he loved platonically.
Platonically, right? Yeah, platonically...
Y/n kept her gaze on the waters. "Thanks for always doing stuff with me, Lyney. I really hope I'm not boring you or overworking you. I really appreciate you being with me."
He was going to faint. Blood was rushing to his head. Was he having a medical emergency?
"Y/n, seriously, it's no big deal. I love doing stuff and hanging out with you. Never worry about bothering me."
"Really?" She sounded astonished. Sounded. Lyney couldn't bring himself to look at her or else he might not be able to breathe altogether.
"Well, then," she looked straight up at the sky, "I'll make sure to keep you with me."
"I would like that, y/n."

"It just doesn't make sense, Lynette! Why would I be in love with her? Sure I love her, but as a friend, right?" He gripped his head in a panic as his sister sat across the table from him.
She sighed and shook her head. "Lyney, you are completely whipped."
"No! I'm not!"
She counted on her fingers. "Sped up heart rate," that's one, "constantly flushed face when she simply breathes in your vicinity," that's exaggerated, but two, "the want to be with her and be 'friends' with her throughout both of your entire lives," that's three...
"That's it?" He asked.
"Dear brother, how much simpler can it get? You are completely smitten."
"No! I'm not!"
She stood up from the table. "Keep being in denial, if you want. Navia's gonna have a field day with this."
"Agh, no! Wait!" He pled, but it was fruitless.
What was he supposed to do with these feelings?
What feelings? He lied to himself, these are completely platonic feelings, and y/n is just a friend.
*
"So you—you," his boss pointed at him across the desk, laughing, "you are completely in love, Lyney."
"You too?" Lyney asked irritably. "Aren't you always the one telling us to be mature?"
Navia grinned. "I am mature. And I'm telling you, maturely, that you are in love with this girl."
"Stop!" He groaned.
"Look," Navia sighed, "if it's really that much of a problem for you, just put these feelings into your songs, alright? Then you'll forget about them."
"I suppose that is an idea," mused Lyney. "Okay, thank you for actually giving me advice instead of bullying me, Navia. I'll just... go to the practice room now."
"Alright, then. Buh-bye!"
"Goodbye," he left, and shut the door.
Navia smiled again. The feelings would only strengthen.

Y/n and Lyney had done the same routine. Work on the project for an excruciatingly long amount of time, and go for a nice walk after.
They did the routine over and over, until the project was complete and ready to be turned in the next school day.
Lyney, though seeing the same view over and over, never got sick of it. And he never would, as long as he stood next to y/n.
"So, Lyney..."
"Yeah?"
"You said you like hanging out with me, right?"
"Of course, y/n," his brows furrowed in confusion.
She looked straight up at the sky. "Clear skies," she muttered.
"Y/n?" He asked, anticipating what she wanted to ask.
"There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight. Want to watch it with me, Lyney?"
