After a long night of band rehearsal, Elijah headed straight home and quickly had something to eat before going to bed. He was exhausted from singing and all he wanted to do was sleep. That was until his phone started ringing just as he was about to doze off. He tiredly leaned over and picked up his phone, not bothering to look at the contact name as he answered.
"Hello?" He spoke with a hint of confusion, waiting for a response.
"Eli, I need you to pick me up." The sound of Maeve rang through his ears, she sounded on the verge of tears and this fully woke him up.
"Are you drunk?" He asked, not sure what was going on. "Where are you?" Eli grew even more concerned.
"I'm not drunk, I promise. I'm outside the cinema near my house." She quickly told him. "Please come and get me." Maeve's voice started to crack.
Eli was already in the car before she even told him her location. "I'm on my way, alright? I'll be there in 10 minutes max." He reassured her, driving down the road.
The car sped up but not passing the speed limit as he didn't want to get a ticket. He quickly turned off the radio, not needing the distraction at this time of stress.
Soon enough, Eli was outside of the cinema when he spotted the familiar face waiting outside for him. Maeve was smoking a cigarette whilst wiping away her tears. She was clearly in a state.
He watched as she made her way over towards the car, opening the door and getting in quickly. "You wanna talk about it?" Elijah asked softly and she shook her head in response.
"You can talk to me, even if we don't have the best relationship right now." He joked, trying to lighten up the energy.
"Just a bad night." She muttered under her breath as she nervously played with her hands.
"Let me guess." Eli replied. "Shitty date?" He then asked. "Shitty is an understatement." Maeve let out a small laugh as she shook her head.
"That bad, huh?" He questioned in a shocked tone before starting up the car again. "Where to?" Eli looked over at Maeve from the corner of his eye.
"Uh, my place." She simply responded, just wanting to get this over and done with.
The drive home took at least 20 minutes, the music on the radio filling the silence as Elijah drove. It was quite relaxing with the lights of different cars passing by along with the noise.
When his car came to a stop, Maeve knew they'd arrived at her place and she she quickly undid her seatbelt. She was about to open the car door but Eli stopped her.
"Is Juno in?" He asked, knowing she needed her best friends comfort at a time like this.
"No, she's with Bobby but it's fine." Maeve told him. "I'm fine, I'll just go to bed."
"Are you sure?" Eli decided to double check, not really sure about leaving her alone.
Maeve nodded despite not looking so sure about her decision. "Thanks for picking me up." She quickly thanked him and got out of the car, making her way up to the front door.
He watched her to make sure she got in safely but when she stopped in her tracks, he grew confused. She returned back to the car and opened the door.
"Can you stay with me?" Maeve asked, her eyes softening, almost in a way to make Eli not want to leave.
"Oh, uh, yeah, sure." He stumbled over his words, her stare making him nervous.
The pair then walked up to her place together, their hands slightly brushing up against each other as they walked.
"What happened on the date?" Elijah brought the subject up again.
He noticed Maeve's expression changed as she started pulling on her sleeve. "Well, I guess we both wanted different things. He just wanted to sleep with me and I wanted something more than that." She tried to keep it as brief as possible.
"Oh, I'm sorry he was a prick." Eli insulted the guy to try and lighten up the situation.
A few minutes had passed and Maeve couldn't stop thinking about what Thomas had said to her. Her and Eli were sat on the sofa watching late night television and she felt like she couldn't breathe.
"Do you think I'm a boring prude?" She suddenly asked him, breaking the silence.
Elijah was taken aback by the question and couldn't understand why she'd ask such a thing. "What? No, of course not." He tried to reassure her. "Where did that come from?" He asked. "Did Thomas call you that?"
Her breath hitched at the question and he soon got his answer. "You're far from boring, Maeve. You are literally the funnest person I've ever met. Remember that time you suggested that we should go skydiving and you literally smiled the whole time? That was the moment I knew I was-" Eli got caught up in his thoughts but stopped before he could say something he'd later regret.
"We should probably go to bed, it's late." He the suggested, looking at the clock that said 3:22am, meaning they'd stayed up talking most of the night.
"Yeah, you're right." Maeve agreed and got up from the sofa. "Goodnight, Eli." She said before walking into her bedroom.
"Goodnight, Maeve." He responded and made his way to the guest room.
