Mack POV - August 6th
I stare at the field in complete disbelief.
"Mommy?"
I look at Riley, who has Go USA tattooed on her cheek.
"Alex lost, mommy?"
I sigh and my eyes search the field for Alex.
I find her and my heart breaks.
"Yeah, baby. She did."
"She's sad?" She asks.
I kiss her head, "Yeah, baby."
I turn and see Serv holding Charlie, he turns and sees me and gives me a curt nod.
I look back and find Alex again, in the circle with her teammates.
They finally break and Alex looks to the crowd, locking eyes with me.
I can see that she's crying and it kills me.
"Alex is coming, mommy."
"Yeah, baby, she is."
Alex walks over and gives me a finger while she grabs Charlie.
She walks over with her and I look at Serv, who is staring at us.
I turn back, "Hi, Lex. It's okay."
She nods and I wrap my arm around her with Riley.
"It's okay, Alex. I still love you." Riley whispers.
I hear Alex sniffle and kiss her head.
I hear her name get called and look up.
She wipes her face, "Can you take Charlie?"
I nod, "Yeah, of course. Come here, Charlie."
She hands her to me and I stare at her.
"I'll call you once we get to the hotel. I'm going to have media, I already know."
She goes to walk away and I stop her, "Hey. I'm proud of you, no matter what that scoreboard says."
She smiles sadly and nods then walks off.
"I'll take Charlie." Serv says.
"Uh? Alex asked me to take her." I say.
He shakes his head, "I've got her."
I furrow my eyebrows, "I'm her dad. Not you."
My eyes widen.
"Hey, Servando. That's enough." I turn and see Alex's dad.
He turns to me, "Alex has told me all about you, Mack, I'm Mike."
I smile, "Hi."
He turns back to Serv, "Alex asked her to take her, I'll be with them. Alex will talk to you in a bit."
He grumbles, but backs off.
I turn to Mike, "Thanks, I didn't know what to do."
He nods, "He's all bark."
I nod.
"You want help getting these two back to the hotel?" He asks.
I nod, "Yeah, that'd be awesome."
We start walking out and get to the car, getting in and quickly being taken to the hotel.
"So, you're dating my daughter, my baby, huh?"
My eyes widen and I nod, "She's amazing."
He nods, "She is. She's been through a lot, especially in the last year."
