MONEY WAS TIGHT. Steve was barely making enough money to cover rent while Katrina looked for jobs who would actually take her. She had started to regret quitting her job at Mario's diner, it was stable and kept food on the table.
It was an early morning in the Rogers' household. Steve sat at the table, scoffing down a bowl of cheerios before having to head to work. Katrina was too busy fixing her hair and polishing up her makeup to listen to Steve's calls.
"Katrina!"
Silence. Katrina needed to look absolutely perfect if she wanted to seduce her way back into her old job. That would be the only way to keep her and Steve with a roof over their head and reduce the worry of financial stability when Steve ends up in the hospital again.
"Katrina!"
Putting on her left earring, Katrina rolled her eyes and grabbed her bag. Making her way to the kitchen, she eyed her brother, watching as he slurped up his cheerios. "What?"
"Could you get me some orange juice from the fridge? Jay made some last night." Dumbfounded, Katrina could not believe Steve had asked her all the way from the bathroom if she could get the orange juice. Picking the newspaper off of the table, she rolled it up and threw it at him. "Ow!"
"Get it yourself, you ugly twat." She headed for the door, throwing on her black mary jane shoes as quickly as possible.
"Where are you going, anyway?"
Taking a leftover cookie from the counter and shoving it in her mouth, she explained, "Gonna beg Mario to give me my old job back. I was the best he had there, anyway. There's six million people in this city and not one of them could hire me? No fucking luck, huh."
Steve shook his head, looking up from his cereal. "No, you're not going back to that place. You were treated absolutely awful. I love you too much to let you do that for yourself." Steve adored his younger sister. He thought he protected her from the world, when in reality it was the other way around.
She tapped her foot, "Well, what would you like me to do, Steve?"
He weighed in, "I could talk to my boss again-"
Katrina groaned, "We've tried that. Nothing has worked, nothing has been in my fucking favor!" She started to rant, "I work hard, I'm a great listener and learner, I keep in line. What the fuck is the problem?" Katrina shook her head, "No, I have to. I have to get that job back." Heading for the door, she could hear the footsteps of Steve following behind.
"Kat, come on!"
She looked back at her brother, squeezing his shoulder. "I'm sorry Steve, but I want to be able to breathe once in a while without worrying about money." Walking out the door, she quickly closed it behind her before heading for the stairs.
"Katrina, come back inside!"
Katrina's mind blocked out Steve's plea's to come back. She kept her head down, somewhat ashamed that she let herself spiral back to that stupid diner, but also relieved that she could hopefully get her job back and wouldn't have to worry about money anymore.
This was short lived until Katrina bumped into Bucky walking down the street.
'Oomph' was heard exiting Bucky's mouth, looking up to see just the person he was looking for. A smile curled onto his face. "Kit-Kat! I was actually looking for you."
