Luan woke up looking at the top bunk. She felt more tired than usual, though this was understandable. She turned her head to make herself more comfortable and saw her laptop and the vanity.
She sat up, remembering the email she had sent last night. She stood up and rushed to the computer, not bothering to put on her bunny slippers. She snapped the computer open and checked her email account. She clicked on the first notification and read the reply. Dreyfus had agreed.
"Yes," Luan said to herself, feeling a rush of anticipation knowing that this was actually happening.
Luan walked over to the closet and got dressed. As she removed from the rack her shirt and skirt that she would wear, she saw Mr. Coconuts, laying at the back of the closet against the wall, next to the prank box. He was sitting in a position similar to what Benny had been in last night when Luan left him. His large, brown pupils stared at her accusingly.
She changed and exited the room to get into the bathroom line. She was one of the later ones, with three sisters in front of her. They, however, let her cut in front of them; they were probably still being sympathetic to Luan after last night.
After using the bathroom, she went downstairs to the dining room to eat breakfast. The rest of the family was already eating. Luan grabbed a breakfast burrito and sat down at the far end of the table.
As she was eating, she looked across the table and saw Dad reading a newspaper. On the front in large letters was, "Silent Death," and right below a drawing of a white mask with crude face painting. Below that in smaller lettering it read, "Murderer dressed as a mime kills three."
Luan squirmed slightly at reading this. So, she had been recorded wearing the mime outfit. But they obviously still didn't know who it was, or she'd be in handcuffs.
Luan finished her breakfast and went to the dishwasher to dispose of her plate. When she turned back to the table, she noticed that Lisa had turned her head almost the exact same time as Luan. Luan grew concerned, as Lisa obviously did not want her to know she had been watching her.
Luan walked past the table and back to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She was still thinking about the newspapers as she moved the brush across her braces and teeth. She wasn't too happy that the shooting had gotten this much attention, but... she felt somewhat prideful that her actions had gotten such a reaction from everyone, and that they didn't know who did it. She felt the same way Bruce Wayne must have felt reading article after article of writers praising Batman for his deeds.
Luan spat the last of the toothpaste out of her mouth and waited outside for when it was time to leave. All the kids were waiting in the front yard, waiting for Lori to be finished doing whatever she was doing. Lynn, Lana and Lily were all playing some kind of game in the dirt under the tree, Lola and Leni were talking about fashion, Luna was humming a toon, Lucy was reading through her poem book and Lincoln and Lisa were on the porch together, not really talking.
Luan walked over to Lincoln and Lisa and sat next to them on the bench.
"Hey Luan," Lincoln said. Lisa didn't acknowledge her, just staring into blank space as if doing something in her head.
"Hi Lincoln," Luan replied.
"Are you feeling better?" Lincoln asked.
"Yeah... I guess so. I'm just happy that Benny wasn't killed."
