2014

I cut the carrots, dumping them into the pot for the soup. I look at Dick who's still cutting the celery.

"Seriously?"

"What?"

I move him out of the way to finish cutting them. I slide them into the pot.

"Can you at least get the chicken broth from the fridge?"

"Of course, my love."

He kisses the side of my head before going to the other side of the kitchen. Sam walks in, sitting at the island.

"Didn't hear you come in."

"I'm stealthy."

"Where's Jon?"

"He said he had somewhere to go first.. I don't know."

"I'm finishing up the soup and then I need to get started on dessert if you want to help? It's your favorite."

"Apple pie?"

"Of course. I got fresh apples this morning from the farmers market downtown."

She smiles, going around me to hug Dick. I have Dick pour the two cartons of chicken broth in. I put the lid on to let it cook.

My grandmother Martha gave me her recipes after she died. I've only recently started cooking them. The chicken noodle recipe is one of them.

I make a quick bathroom stop, coming back to the kitchen to see Sam and Dick laughing. It was supposed to be a family dinner tonight but my dad couldn't make it. There seems to be a lot of that happening.

He's constantly cancelling on plans we make and never rescheduling them. I'm glad that doesn't affect Sam and Jon. They come anytime they can or come by without even asking.

I grab the blueberries from the fridge. I also got these from the farmers market. Apple pie is Sam's favorite but blueberry is Jon's.

Dick helps Sam with the apple pie while I start on the blueberry one. I finish the pie when I realize what time it is.

"Sam, did Jon say where he was going?"

"No idea. He just said there was something he needed to do."

"What does a seventeen year old have to do that's so important?"

I grab my phone from the table. I scroll to Jon's contact. I press the call button and the call goes straight to voicemail.

"You reached Jon, leave a message or don't. Bye."

I set my phone down. There's a feeling in the pit of my stomach that feels like something's going to happen. I ignore the feeling, going to check on the soup.

I grab the ladle, pouring soup into four bowls. I hesitate grabbing the bowls. I hold my hand up, levitating the bowls to the table.

I barely use my magic. It feels wrong to, because I shouldn't have it. It shouldn't even be possible. It's a part of me that I hate.

I sit down at the table. Dick and I watch and listen to Sam talk about finally getting a suit. She looks so happy. I turn my head.

"Lara!"

"It's Jon.."

I speed off, flying into the sky. I look at the Earth, looking for Jon. I find his location, rushing back to Earth. I land in an abandoned field. I look up to see Jon on his knees with blood all over his face.

"Let him go!"

"Lara Martha Kent.."

I look from him to the woman behind him. A woman I'm more than familiar with. Someone who I've had run ins with before.

"Emma Elaine Frost."

"We meet again."

"Leave my brother alone."

"Oh but we were having so much fun, weren't we?" She pulls at Jon's neck. "Weren't we!"

He nods his head.

"Jon.. it'll be okay."

"Don't lie to him."

She holds up a shard of Kryptonite. I hold my hands up in protest. Kryptonite doesn't affect me but it will to Jon.

"He didn't do anything to you, Emma, he's a child. He's innocent. Leave him out of this."

"What's the fun in that?"

I shake my head.

"He's seventeen.. he has his whole life in front of him."

"Looks like I found her Kryptonite, huh?"

I look at Jon. He already has shards of Kryptonite in his body. He's scared. Terrified.

"You have something I want."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I ask. "I let you go.. I didn't turn you over to authorities."

"Don't lie!"

I look at her confused.

"Let him go and we'll talk."

"You know? No." She holds up the Kryptonite. "You're too late again, Supergirl."

"No!"

I pull my arms back, slamming my wrists together in an X as Emma's body is thrown back. I run to Jon's body. I fall to my knees, staring at the Kryptonite in his chest.

"Lara.."

"Jon.. I can save you. I can save you."

"No.. it's too late."

"No it's not." I cry. "It's not!"

I start ripping the Kryptonite out of him.

"You were the best big sister I could've asked for."

His eyes slowly close.

"Jon! Open your eyes!"

He doesn't listen because he's not here with me anymore. I look up and see Emma gone.

I start to lose control of my breathing. I scream out in pain as lasers erupt from my eyes.
