Killer's POV

"Sir, have you seen this creature?"A soldier asks, shoving another wanted poster in my face.

"For the last time, no. I haven't. I run a tavern, not a fishing shop. So I don't look for sea creatures but haven't any. Now are you done and going to order something or what? It's currently time for morning tea."I say, rolling my non-existent eyes.

"Tch, such a waste of time."He scoffs, marching out and slamming the door.

"Tch, asshole."I say, cleaning a few cups.

SLAM!

"Morning Killer!"A familiar voice says

I smile, seeing my friend and regular customer Horror march to his seat. He sits down with a grin, fixing the patches on his shirt as they slip a bit.

"Hey Horror. You want your usual I assume?"I ask

He nods. I smirk, getting some steak and sliding it into the furnace. I arrange three plates of food, then fill a large cup with juice. Apple, his favorite.

"So how are you doing, Horror? Business going good?"I ask

"It's going great so far! Can't keep enough carvings on the shelf!"He says proudly

"That's good, especially with winter coming."I say, setting the cooked steak on another plate.

I slide the food over and he smiles, digging in. He always has a big appetite but I'm not surprised since he is a skilled lumberjack dedicated to his work. His bones are brittle despite how strong he is due to skipping meals for work so anytime he is willing to eat, I'll be sure to help him. Can't have him malnourished and getting sick or hurt.

"I still don't get how you struggle to get business at times. Don't they recognize your skill?"A voice says at the end of the counter

We glance over and I smirk, pouring a glass and sliding it down to him. Dust grabs it with a nod and sips it.

Horror shrugs.

"Any business is good business."He says

"Shallow bastards."Dust grumbles

"Don't call them that!"Horror says

"Oh come on, bud. Don't defend the people out there. We know how they look at us and what they think. Their shitty biases are getting involved with your business and it doesn't take more than a glance to see what they're judging."He says

I sigh, knowing that he is right. Rumors spread around town about us and I can feel their condescending gazes on me whenever I go to the market. We each aren't "normal" by their standards. I have a different soul, lack eyes, and have marks going down my face. Though that's only the start of what's abnormal about me but nobody out there knows. Horror has brittle bones and his skull cracked open with a bright red eye that they find creepy. Dust has multicolored eyes and can see spirits. Not normal whatsoever but a good trio of friends if you ask me.

"Eh, whatever. Shouldn't matter what their shitty minds think. The moment you give them any consideration is the moment they win. Forget them."I say

They both nod.

"Besides, there are some who actually see us that you can't deny. Don't let strangers matter more than them."I say

"What are you talking about?"Dust asks

"Hmmm, perhaps your sparring partner, Dust? The bright knight you've praised for hours in here?"I say teasingly

He pulls his hat lower, hiding his eyes. I chuckle, glancing at Horror as he finishes his second plate.

"Do I even have to mention the one you've laid in orchards with?"I ask

His face burns bright red.

"H-He's just nice...."

"Uh huuuh, riiigght."I say, shaking my head.

I hear trumpets start blaring and they both tense up.

"What's all that noise about?"I ask

"The Dark Prince got sent over to the East Castle."Dust says

"I assume that is to signal his arrival."Horror says

Dark Prince...? Oh, right. The prince loves shadows. Why would he get sent here? The Queen seems to have no issue ruling across the sea so he can't be here to rule for her. What could this be about?

The village is part of territory ruled by Queen Nim across the Gilbert Sea as we are to the west of the kingdom. A small territory taken years ago but she hasn't done much with it or expanded on it. She has two sons who seem like complete opposites according to rumor and the papers.

Prince Dream is a ray of sunshine that shines and charms anyone he meets, a social butterfly in most environments. He's been nicknamed the Radiating Prince, the Good Prince, or the Prince of the Sun. I prefer the Butterfly Prince nickname, particularly since it annoys anyone I tell it to for comparing their grandly loved figure to a small bug that could live as short as a day.

His brother is lesser known or liked for whatever reason. His name is Nightmare and isn't seen as much. Guess the people are upset that they can't gain a royal crush for him. He is known as the Dark Prince or the Shadow Prince since he dresses in dark, usually purple, clothes and hides in the shadows of royal events to read book instead of socializing. I find a bit funny how they try to shame an obvious introvert that could easily have them thrown in a dungeon for their bold criticisms. Yet nobody knows his actual name unlike his famous brother Dream.

Welp, things are sure to get interesting.

"Dream! Oh! Ooh, Dream! Your majesty! He is here!"Voices cheer outside

"Looks like the simps found the Butterfly Prince."Dust snickers

"I thought the Dark Prince was coming. Did I hear wrong?"Horror wonders

I shrug, hearing the cheers of Dream's fans grow louder and louder that it's hard to hear myself think.

"Brother! Where are you going?"A voice shouts over the noise

I shut the windows to block out the noise and Horror slides me some gold coins to pay for his meal.

SLAM!

"Finally...Got away from him...Some more peace and quiet."A voice says

I glance over and pause, surprised to see the new guest holding the doors shut.

"Ooh, I like it here. Not as bright and not as noisy...Nice..."He mumbles

It didn't take a genius to know who entered my tavern. Dressed in dark purple clothes with golden ties in his coat and a crown on his head, violet eyes gazing curiously around as he clutches a book in hand, it was clear. Make no mistake.

The Dark Prince is here.
