It wasn't long until the sun started to rise again, indicating the end of the night and consequently the start of a new day. Neither Levi nor Sawyer had slept for the remainder of the time since the girl's nightmare, so as soon as the first rays of sunlight broke through the morning mist, Levi untied the girl and ushered her back inside. This time there was no talkback or argument about it, since it was daytime, and the cottage felt way less constricting in the daylight.
While the soldier went straight to the kitchen to prepare himself a cup of tea, Sawyer felt a sting in her palm, reminding her of the still somewhat untreated injury that had at this point probably caught a slight infection. She already dreaded the next few actions she'd take, but it was what had to be done, to avoid further complications.
The sink fitted in with the rest of the hideout in being old and dingy, leaving Sawyer to pray that at least the water coming out of the tap was somewhat clean. However, before she could think about cleaning the cut, she had to first unwrap it, since it was still covered by the cloth she had received from Commander Pixis. The blood had dried at this point leaving the fabric with a huge red-brownish stain, that no cleaner in the world would be able to fully get rid of.
As simple as the idea of removing the fabric may sound, it turned out to be quite the opposite. The cloth had slightly dug into the wound, so when the blood dried and the wound started closing up, it had almost become part of her hand, leaving the girl no other option but to forcefully rip it out and in turn get the healing process back to square one. It wasn't just the reset in progress that stopped Sawyer in her tracks, it was also the pain that would inevitably be associated with doing this.
Just as Sawyer had mentally hyped herself up to get rid of the fabric, she was interrupted by someone new entering the silent room. Subconsciously trying to find any excuse to delay the treatment of her wound, she turned around, seeing a tiered-looking Petra enter the room, who sent a small smile in her direction, before formally greeting her superior. Levi quickly dismissed the soldier, going back to his morning tea.
I can't remember ever having tea, but I once left my water out in the sun and as far as I remember, the taste was bad. I didn't know water had a taste, but as soon as it's warm it does and it's dreadful, so why would anyone do that purposefully?
She was brought back to reality when she suddenly felt someone touch her hand. Out of reflex, she flinched slightly pulling the vulnerable body part away as quickly as possible. When her eyes came back into focus, she looked at the widened ones of the female scout, that had entered the room a few minutes ago.
"Sorry, I was..somewhere else," Sawyer mumbled as a quick apology, trying to avoid as much conflict with the members of the squad as possible. Somewhere inside her she also felt a bit bad for what she had done, even though whenever the thought entered her mind, it was pushed away in an instant. The girl lifted her head back up when she heard a small laugh from the person in front of her, who had just waved her off.
Petra had made the decision for herself, to give their guest a chance, and maybe to convince her that humanity wasn't as terrible as she apparently thought it was. Everyone deserved a second chance and the scout was willing to give the girl exactly that.
"No worries, I'm not really a morning person either. I just said, that this wound looked pretty nasty." the hazel-haired woman clarified, trying to build a bit of a conversation. It was true that she wasn't much of a morning person, but she had gotten used to it, over being part of the scouts.
"Oh, yeah," Sawyer responded, still sounding a bit distant, as she looked at her own palm, almost like she just discovered it herself for the first time. She was a bit overwhelmed, with the energy the soldier was presenting, especially after her statement, about not liking early mornings. The girl hadn't expected anyone to be particularly nice to her at all, not to mention this quickly, after she had just tried to escape two nights prior. She was wary of the woman's possible intentions, leaving her mind racing with multiple dialogue and behaviour options, she had to try and choose from in real-time.
