The Girl From Outside The Walls [Levi x Reader]

The weather was quite cold and the air held a high humidity, which was mainly because it was still early in the morning and the sun hadn't risen yet. However, for the scout unit, this wasn't an uncommon occurrence, since a lot of their missions started before the break of dawn for tactical advantage. But all this was Commander Erwin's responsibility and while Levi was almost always included in the meetings, that went over the strategy for the missions, he just couldn't get himself to listen properly.

His mission was to kill Titans and hopefully keep his squad alive. Right now however his mission was to avoid Hange. It may be true that he was used to starting missions this early in the morning it didn't bother him, but what he would never get used to was the unbelievably enthusiastic persona of Hange before these missions.

He had seen new Recruits getting excited about leaving the walls for the first time, but most of them lost that naive positivity after one maybe two missions. Hange however managed to find almost pure joy in the idea of going beyond the walls and potentially encountering titans.

To Levi's dismay, the excited science freak seemed to have spotted him and was now on a direct path towards him, already having this stupid grin on their face, that could only mean one thing. They had something "super exciting and new" to tell him and would probably not let him get away before the expedition started, since then they would be put in different parts of the formation.

Just as they had reached Levi and opened their mouth to start babbling away without a care in the world, Commander Erwin came to Levi's rescue by giving the command for everyone to get on their horses and assemble the formation.

Today's expedition was merely for scouting purposes, which meant that titans should be avoided rather than engaged with. They would get to a forest that they previously didn't know existed since it was pretty small and located a bit further out than the usual expedition would lead. One soldier had spotted it on the last mission after being separated from his squad.

His report raised a lot of questions, that sadly couldn't be answered due to his unfortunate passing. The soldier got separated from his squad when an abnormal titan attacked them. Once he saw the small array of large trees he directed his horse towards them, knowing that he had better chances of survival in a terrain that complemented the use of ODM gear.

Once he reached the treeline his horse started misbehaving, refusing to step foot into the forest and forcing the soldier to use his ODM gear to get into the trees and escape the abnormal that was still following him. Once he was in the trees he saw steam rising as if a titan had just been killed, which confused the man, who thought he was alone and abandoned to fend for himself.

As he approached the steam cloud he couldn't find anything. No trace of a titan or a human who could've slain the beast. The next thing he knew was that there was again a rise of smoke, from where he thought the abnormal would be. When he approached this area, there was again, no sign of anything happening.

Thinking he had gone crazy the man called out in hopes of getting an answer, just anything to tell him he wasn't going insane. However yet again, nothing. The man took a rest on a big branch of the tree he was on and started writing down everything he had experienced in a small notebook he had brought with him. The last sentence in the notebook was, that he would wait for nightfall to come, so he could go to the forest floor and hopefully find his horse, to start the dangerous journey back.

Surprisingly the horse came back, with the soldier seated on its back. Levi didn't know what exactly happened he just knew what the garrison officers had reported. In their report, they described, that in the early hours of the morning, just shortly after sunrise a horse could be seen in the distance approaching the wall.
