"You're Not Welcome."

An exasperated sigh comes from behind as Jiangxue barely manages to hold the big pile of books you have stuffed into his arms. You yourself are carrying an entire stack of books in your bag. A faint smile appears on your lips, as if you knew what he was about to say.

"We raided the entire bookshop of its books, Master. You might as well have bought the store altogether."

"Good idea, Xue'er, but it's not like I don't have multiple libraries dedicated to me scattered across China already."

Your joke fails to get a positive reaction from Jiangxue.

"Absolutely hilarious, Master."

"Thank you."

You could practically hear him roll his eyes.

"It wasn't a compliment."

"I know."

Jiangxue sighs, while you chuckle.

The both of you proceed down the street, a comfortable silence settling between you. Perhaps you'll finally have a peaceful time today since coming to the Mortal Realm.

But of course, who are you kidding? Fate has other plans for both you and the Harbinger of Chaos.

As if on cue, you look up to the sky to see it turn into a gloomy shade of purple, before you hear resounding booms gradually approaching the city.

You squint at the figure that slowly appears in the distance, smoke surrounding it.

How is his avatar here? First the hero, then his shadow?

"Not again." Jiangxue groans as he follows your gaze to see the Smoke Monster which seems to be approaching the city rather rapidly.

"Can't we have a single peaceful day around here?" He complains, before rearranging the books he's carrying. "Master, we should find a place to put these down first and foremost. A fight is unavoidable at this point."

You giggle at his bluntness, shaking your head. It wouldn't hurt for you to just ignore that Smoke Monster for a little while longer. "Sure. There's an alley right up ahead."

You don't falter in the slightest when you feel the monster's lingering gaze burning on your skin, your eyes looking straight forward at the next corner you will be turning at.
