Thank you for your interest in my book. I hope you enjoy it. My spacing is being fixed in the edited version I am working on. Some things are being updated as well, as this is a work in progress spanning over a decade.

CHAPTER 1

"It can't be done!" The head geneticist protested in the middle of her presentation. Many scientists had heard this phrase throughout the centuries, though none of them listened, and Andy wasn't going to listen either. She also wouldn't stand for interruptions in the middle of her presentation.

"Dr. Marshall," Her voice was stern and full of authoritarian zest. "I'm sure there will be disagreements about this matter, but the discussion will not be held until after my presentation is finished."

She explained, her thin yet athletic tan arms, were folded, as if a mother were scorning one of her children. In her hand, she held a remote that she had been using for her presentation. She gripped it tightly in her hand and imagined throwing it at Dr. Marshall's forehead knocking him on his ass. This, however, would remain just a daydream.

"Ms Payne..." Dr. Marshall stood in the darkness of the room, his glasses reflecting the light, which was the only sign of him standing up, his voice was professional and matter-of-fact.

"Although your presentation has been nothing short of remarkable and impressive in theory, your thesis, however, is not plausible. I'm afraid the boards' time is too valuable to be wasted on false thoughts and accusations such as these."

Andy could hear the smirk in his voice. The bastard was mocking her. Marshall was a pompous ass and everyone knew it, but his tenure at the university made him untouchable.

"Dr. Marshall, many scientists had to fail time and time again before their theories were proven. How is this any different?"

There was anger and frustration in her voice. The plastic remote was starting to creak under her grip until it cracked. Andy looked down at the remote, a crack running down the middle of the backside of it. Andy looked back up to see the scientists with their briefcases in hand, walking out of the classroom.

"Fuckers..." Andy muttered as she packed up her laptop, stuffing it into her bag, and turned off the projector. She slipped the strap of her bag over her shoulder, and walked out of the classroom, her head filled with thoughts. Walking down the hall she began unbuttoning the red blouse she had been wearing, managing to keep her bag from falling while taking it off, she shoved the shirt into her bag.

With the stomping of her skater shoes on the linoleum floor was also the sound of her jeans rubbing as she walked. Her jeans were tighter than she normally wore, and flared out towards the bottom, barely fitting over the tongue of her skater shoes. Her black tank-top clung tightly to her, which also revealed her tattooed arms, and showed parts of the tattoos on her back, all of which had been covered with the blouse but now were free to be seen.

Her tattoo addiction began with the band she got around her ankle, it was simple, but also represented her sister who had died when she was 3 months old, from a genetic disorder when Andy was 3 years old. It was her sister's name, Sarah, with angel wings on either side, and a halo above her name. It was her sister that was the main reason why Andy wanted to get into genetics, and really anything to do with biotechnology. The rest of her tattoos had anything and everything to do with the fact that she was a Leo, and that she liked yin yangs, tribal designs, and dragons. Andy was not the girly girl her mother had always wanted her to be. Andy was okay with that, considering her mother had two other daughters, one older than Andy and one younger, to mold into her picture perfect image of a daughter.
