Zoe worked diligently as a receptionist at a prestigious business firm, her days filled with endless paperwork and managing calls. Her boss, Gray, was unlike any other she had encountered before. With his black untamed curls and piercing blue eyes, he possessed a mysterious allure that drew people in. Despite his position of authority, Gray was kind and always sought Zoe's opinion, making her feel valued and respected.

However, there was an underlying darkness that marred Gray's otherwise handsome face. Dark circles under his eyes and a perpetual paleness hinted at his lack of sleep. Zoe had also noticed that he never seemed to eat, surviving solely on coffee. These observations raised questions in her mind, but she had never dared to pry.

One fateful evening, Zoe found herself working late, the office quiet and dimly lit. As she was about to leave, she heard raised voices emanating from Gray's glass office. Curiosity got the better of her, and she cautiously approached the door. Inside, she witnessed a heated argument between Gray and his agent.

"I'm doing everything I can!" Gray's voice boomed, filled with frustration and desperation.

"You're not doing enough," the agent retorted, his face contorted with fury.

Gray flinched, his hand trembling as he placed it on the table for support. "You're fired," he uttered, avoiding eye contact with his agent.

Enraged, the agent rose from his chair and advanced menacingly towards Gray. With a swift motion, he slapped Gray across the face, leaving an immediate bruise that painted his features in unflattering hues. The agent's cruel words stung, exposing Gray's painful past as an orphan who had grown up on the streets.

Gray remained silent until the agent stormed out of the room. The moment the door slammed shut, Gray released his grip on the table and sank to his knees on the floor. "Fuck," he muttered, his voice filled with resignation. Gingerly, he waved a hand over the bruise and a jagged cut, the latter dripping with blood from the agent's ring.

Zoe was both shocked and horrified by what she had witnessed. Unintentionally, she knocked over a vase, shattering Gray's ornament. Startled, Gray quickly made his way towards her hiding spot. Zoe took in his disheveled appearance up close, her heart aching for him. His hair was even messier than usual, his suit in disarray, and his face marred by the bruise and cut.

Confronting Gray with her concerns, Zoe found herself brushed off by his pleas for her to leave. Overwhelmed, she obeyed, but her determination to help him only grew stronger.

The next day, Zoe arrived at work early, her mind set on confronting Gray about his deteriorating health. As she gently opened his office door, she was met with the sight of Gray peacefully sleeping in a chair. A mix of relief and worry washed over her as she approached him.

Gray opened up to Zoe, revealing that his former agent had been controlling him completely, forcing him to work day and night. The toll on his physical and emotional well-being had been immense.
