MondayToday was the last day in Iceland and Dylan revoked my rights to plan our activities. So I was to blindly follow these guys wherever they led me. I was super excited to see what was in store for me.
It later found that it was a food day. We scurried across streets trying all the good-looking dishes. Iceland has the best fresh-caught seafood, free-roaming lambs, and an abundance of berries. We visited the city's top places like Íslenski Barinn, Matarkjallarinn, KOL Restaurant, and Matur og Drykkur. Some innovative food items like horse jerky, lamb chops with lava salt butter, and crispy fish and chips served with a Skyr dipping sauce showed how good food can be.
With a full belly, we went to the hotel room and took a quick nap. When I woke up, Rex blindfolded me. He wouldn't tell me anything except that it was a surprise.
It was a long travel and I was excruciatingly blindfolded the whole time. I could only hear Dylan and Rex talk about the beauty of the landscape. Once we were out of the jeep, we walked on rocky land while Rex carefully instructed me how to walk. That would've looked very lame but I stumbled now and then. Dylan caught me before I faceplanted on solid earth.
When we settled somewhere on a smooth rock, everything was silent. I could hear the sound of the wind blowing. It was like a beautiful song playing directly inside my ears, just for me. Suddenly a hand removed my blindfold and the view before me made my heart skip a beat.
The Aurora Borealis. The Northern Lights. My selfish reason for this trip. The one which I've forgotten among all the things that happened.
There up in the sky was a curtain of multiple colors. Multiple hues of green with tints of blue, pink, yellow, and violet. It looked like the universe put on a show just for us and the bright green streamers were swaying and dancing in the night sky. As a lover of the night sky, that sight was majestic, like a huge Emerald crown upon the lonely human world. It was ethereal.
I peeled my eyes away from the sky and looked at the two faces beside me with teary eyes. Dylan and Rex were looking up in awe. When Dylan and Rex turned to look at me, their faces were filled with warmth and welcome like I've never seen before in my life. My heart swelled with joy and melted under their gaze. In the reflection of green shades of the sky, I realized that love doesn't necessarily be romantic and I loved those two idiots with all my heart.
In the corner of my heart, I knew they did too.
