"Hey Toby, look what I found."
You say, making sure to keep your voice at reasonable volume. Toby turns around and you hold up the book. "It might be helpful"You say. "T-t-that's good b-because I didn't find m-much," Toby says before he's interrupted by a motor tic. He sighs in annoyance before continuing to speak. "S-sorry. um, I-It was hard to find a-a-anything. Just a bunch of stupid 12 year o-o-olds making shit up-p" you roll your eyes a bit at whoever taught him to apologize for something that he can't exactly control. "You're good, now let's get started". You say as I open up the book and start reading it.The book was somewhat helpful. It told the two of you how the being stalking you and Toby was called Slenderman and collected humans it deemed fitting for its cause. It stalks them, controls them and finally places a mark on them, with a circle with an x through it. The same thing you had been doodling your entire life. Ever since you were a child. A chill went down your spine but you and Toby continue reading. It collects these humans, generally referred to as proxies to sacrifice people to it for power.
That was when you looked at Toby is gaze met yours and you both looked at each with a mixture of terror and concern. You were just 16, and Toby certainly didn't look any older than maybe 17. We didn't want to murder for some evil thing, we just wanted to be normal teenagers. Or at least as normal as we could be. "T-this h-h-has to be a jok-k-ke, r-r-right?" Toby askes you, as if you had some kind of answer for him. "I don't know!" You whisper, slight panic in your voice.
You search the cover for any sign that is a work of fiction. You pray deep down that you missed something, that somewhere it's says that this is just some creature the author made up and you and Toby are just crazy, hallucinating teenagers.
To your dismay, the back of the book says all the information has been documented through real life experience and internet stories. "It's not a joke... it's real..." you say as your voice lowers to an almost inaudible whisper. "W-w-well th-th-there has to be stop-p-p it" Toby whispers softly. You and Toby search for the rest of your library trip for answers. You both search in the book, the internet, the rest of the library books for answers and find nothing. There were no definitive answers for you or Toby, just hopelessness.
You walk home in almost complete silence. There's absolutely no way that could've been true, it can't be. You're not a killer and neither is Toby. There has to be some other way to stop this thing from coming after you.... There has to be...
