Two weeks pass after the raid on the Paranormal Liberation Front.

Hawks is released from the hospital with his burns still sore and his wings still short, just as Endeavor is released with new scars and a broken heart. They don't have time to rest. Shigaraki and the rest of the PLF are on the run, AFO is still hunting after Midoriya, and they along with All Might, Best Jeanist, and other top heroes have to help- no matter what the public says about them.

But the public is an increasing problem that Hawks is starting to wish he could have Endeavor burn to the ground. He has been nothing but loyal to the commission, and Endeavor has as well, yet... They're still being attacked. Perhaps Endeavor has committed his fair share of sins, but he's trying to atone. Speaking of that- on top of all of the stories about Endeavor's abuse of his children and his failure to defeat Shigaraki, there has been a new story; one that he's divorcing his wife, Rei Todoroki.

Hawks has a lot of feelings about it. On one hand, he's upset that Endeavor has yet another thing to be stressed out about in his already stressful life. On the other hand... He's had a pathetic crush on the number one hero since he was a young teenager, and though he never actually got the chance to interact with said hero until this year, he's fallen in love with him. So, to hear that he's single is a relief.

Not that Hawks thinks he has any more of a chance than he did before...

Endeavor is more than twenty years his senior, way out of his league, and an often-times cold and unsympathetic man despite his warm presence. Hawks suspects Endeavor doesn't know about his feelings- that Endeavor would surely reject him if he did know.

But, Hawks is fearful that they won't be able to win this one. Shigaraki is strong, All For One is strong. Many heroes have quit and the ones that are left have lowered morales. Hawks is terrified.

As scared as he is, though, he wants to live a life with no regrets. He doesn't want to risk him or Endeavor dying without telling the older man the truth.

How to do it, he isn't sure. Hawks is a romantic at heart despite his string of casual, meaningless relationships, so he thinks of doing a big grand gesture in a hot air balloon before deciding against it. The public can't know about this. He also thinks of doing something smaller, like a bouquet of flowers and a private dinner, but that would be a mess if Endeavor were to reject him. He'd be left alone with the flowers in front of two uneaten five star meals and untouched glasses of wine that cost more than all of his hero gear combined.

Eventually, Hawks gives up on the idea of making it romantic. It'll happen when it happens.

When it happens? In Hawks's car.

Hawks drives Endeavor to the fancy Todoroki home after a long sixteen hour day of tracking Midoriya and helping him with the villains that AFO has been sending to capture him. After making sure that Midoriya was safe with All Might and Best Jeanist rotating their tracking shifts, they tiredly crawled into Hawks's car and hit the road in the early evening. It's silent and a bit awkward as Hawks prepares himself to watch Endeavor exit the passenger's seat and walk away, partially because Endeavor hates playing music in the car, mostly because his feelings are eating away at him.

Right as Endeavor unbuckles his seatbelt, Hawks speaks- far too fast for his own good, far too fast for him to do the logical thing and stop himself.

"Endeavor, wait," Hawks starts. Endeavor's hand, which was previously on the handle of the passenger's side door, falters. "I need to talk to you... It's not about hero work. This is kind of sudden, I know, but I want you to know that I appreciate how well you've been handling everything recently; especially Dabi and my past that he revealed. You know, you're the only one that hasn't brought that up? But more importantly, even with everything you've been through, you've still stayed strong enough to keep going and help everyone no matter how badly the public treats you. You're amazing, you know that?"
