Hawks has grown used to seeing the number three hero, Best Jeanist, relatively often since the start of his mission to spy on the Paranormal Liberation Front. With the raid over, the two men are forever intertwined- both because of the trauma they faced and because of the work they have to do to keep society from crumbling afterwards. Hawks doesn't mind. It's nice to have a coworker who is also a friend, and despite being rather powerful, Jeanist isn't nearly as intimidating or hard to talk to as Endeavor can be.
Still, they don't spend time together when it doesn't have to do with their jobs as heroes. So, when Tsunagu calls Hawks's cell phone and tells him to come to his apartment alone to talk about something 'important', Hawks assumes the worst; a villain attack, some sign of Shigaraki or All For One, more leaked news about Endeavor and his batshit crazy family.
That's why he's confused when he arrives at Best Jeanist's home and opens the door with his spare key to see the older man casually sitting in his living room. Cautious and unsure, Hawks shuts and locks the front door behind him before walking into the living room and sitting next to Tsunagu on the couch- white and minimalist, just like most of Tsunagu's furniture tends to be. The blond is dressed in a simple turtleneck, black socks, and- of course- a pair of blue jeans. For once, his face is uncovered, revealing a delicately pointed nose and soft pink lips.
Hawks struggles not to stare. The television is on, playing some sort of fashion design show, so he trains his gaze on that instead. He notices that there's a large fruit tray on the coffee table in front of him. Tsunagu appears unbothered as he eats off of a vine of purple grapes and leans back against the couch.
"So, Jeanist," Hawks starts with a smile. He leans back into the couch and tosses an arm over Jeanist's narrow shoulders. Neither of them acknowledge the affectionate gesture out loud, not even when one of Hawks's wings slips behind the number three hero and protectively curls around his back. "It's good to see you and all, but it's my day off. If you wanted to hang out, you could've just said so! You had me thinking you had something important to talk about."
"Don't get the wrong idea, I do have something to discuss with you that I consider very important, but it has nothing to do with our work as heroes," Tsunagu murmurs and sets the scraps of his grape vine down on an empty side of the fruit tray. Hawks, unsure of what else to do with himself, takes a few apple slices from the tray and munches on them. "It's more of a... Personal matter."
"C'mon, man, you're starting to make me worry," Hawks nervously presses, the tips of his wings fluffing up as his eyebrows furrow in a mixture of concern and confusion. "Spill."
Jeanist looks like he's going to answer. Only, he doesn't. Instead, he goes on another one of his philosophical rambles, a soft look in his jade eyes.
"Power is a complicated thing, isn't it, Hawks?"
"Huh?" Hawks sits there rather pathetically for a moment. He thinks he heard that right, but what does power have to do with anything that Jeanist would need to discuss with him? Is this some sort of ploy? "Well, yeah, I guess so. What do you mean?"
"On one hand, it really does give you so many advantages... Wealth, admiration, strength, resources. If you use power correctly, then you can weave a life full of success," Jeanist continues, and it's true. Both of them have had their fair share of power after dominating the hero industry for years on end. They know it like the back of their hands. Whether that's a good thing or not is debatable, though. They're always busy, always being watched, always careful about who they let in because ninety percent of people out there only want to use them for what they have- for who they are. "On the other hand, power draws a lot of attention. The public keeps its eyes on you, demanding you to do what's considered to be the 'right' thing at all times, but you can never win because everyone has a different perception of what's right. Villains come after you no matter how good you are. You're expected to do more than the average, less powerful person."
