CHAPTER 3: "SOME TRUTHS"

Between two challenging journeys we spent consecutively, I couldn't sleep properly, eat, or even have a sip of water. My mouth was dry, and my eyes started to darken from hunger and exhaustion. I was aware that I needed to regain my balance and strength after all those sentences I had been telling myself repeatedly.

After taking a few useful items from where we set up our tents, we started searching for a grocery store as a group. Our endeavor was already delayed, and things didn't go as planned, leaving all of us in a desperate and worn-out state. We were drained and fed up.

Because of the backpack on my back, my steps had slowed down more than I intended. I felt both hesitant and eager to learn about the "epochal" book swirling in my mind.

Did the rise of the ashes have any connection to the killer who born of the ashes? I couldn't do anything else but to keep pondering endlessly. Unanswered questions weighed so heavily on my mind that I thought I would eventually collapse under the burden.

Grasses, stones, and indistinct broken pieces of wood were being crushed under my shoes. While we persisted and continued on our path, no one uttered a word. We had allowed Athena and Morpheus to join us in the search for the grocery store. Hakan didn't trust either of them, but he had to accept it eventually by unanimous decision.

We hadn't come across any lying corpses on the ground. I must have been the only one finding this strange because silence continued to prevail. With absent-minded glances, I scanned everyone.

Athena noticed this and said, "Don't worry, Anka. I feel the same way," and although forced, she smiled. While trying to focus on her confusion, I remembered that she could read people's thoughts.

"Look! There's a market just ahead!" Rabia managed to grab everyone's attention and pointed to the market a few meters away from us. It looked like it could be enough for us, which was a good sign. If it hadn't been looted, I could easily fill my backpack.

"Oh, I'm going to die of hunger!" Efdal pretended to faint. He pulled on the collar of the new shirt he was given, probably happy to get rid of his old one. He stopped and waited for me to catch up, then linked his arm with mine and whispered in my ear, "She's finally useful."

He chuckled with a hint of laughter and said to Morpheus, "You were right! Thank goodness we listened to you and came this way!" His voice was filled with excitement and happiness.

Morpheus explained himself in one go, saying, "I dreamt during that momentary lapse of consciousness, and I knew we had to come this way." Both Efdal and I couldn't fully grasp the reason behind the coldness in his voice.

Efdal seemed to have feelings for him, but I couldn't quite figure it out. However, Aphrodite's scrutinizing gaze at Efdal confirmed my thoughts. Unable to resist, I asked in a hushed voice, "Do you have feelings for Morpheus?"
