A car is typically just a means of transportation, so I never imagined someone could drive it with such elegance.
I'm getting tired of myself constantly stealing glances at the person next to me. I find myself staring at her so often that our eyes occasionally meet, and that might annoy her.
I quickly put on a silly grin, hoping to cover it up with meaningless chatter.
"Your car is pretty cool."
She exhales sharply, "A statement?"
"Yes."
I reply, stealing another glance at the owner of this stunning Bumble Bee, probably for the 108th round. I can't help but notice how skilled she is at provoking others with her razor-sharp wit.
"This car screams that you're more than just a maid in that mansion."
"None of your business."
Fine. Let's change the subject. I pause for a moment and then continue: "What legal issue do you want to discuss?"
"Which way is your sister's high school?"
"Do you always have to answer a question with another question?"
"You should realize that the traffic light is turning green. You better tell me which way to go first; otherwise I'd turn the wrong way. Which one's easier to answer? Your sister's school or my legal puzzle?"
She gives me a long reply, eyes looking down on me as if she thinks I can't figure out that basic stuff myself.
I inhale deeply down to my lungs, telling myself not to argue with her. It's reasonable to prioritize directions, so I give up and instruct her how to reach Vi's school. There's a hint of annoyance in my voice as I speak. Despite our seemingly rational conversation, I'm not okay with the current situation, biting my lip in frustration.
P'Four memorizes the direction and then resumes our discussion.
"If I wanted to prevent someone with severe dementia who is unable to understand important matters from signing a contract, what steps should I take?"
"You mean filing a case in court or something like that?"
"Whatever it's called in your legal jargon."
The flawless girl still focuses on the road ahead, as if she's talking to me on the phone. "What should I do? Where should I go? And what's the success rate?"
"We have the internet, just so you know."
"Different webs, different answers. I hate relying on unreliable anonymous comments."
"What about your fiancé? He's a lawyer, isn't he?"
"How did you know that my fiancé is a lawyer?"
Damn it! My eyes open wide in sudden realization. I wish to slap my mouth real hard for forgetting that I eavesdropped on them.
"Answer me!"
P'Four's voice grows even more aggressive.
She glances at me through the car's front mirror, her beautiful eyes piercing with threatening force.
"I... accidentally overheard your conversation on that rainy day. I was just out on the balcony collecting my clothes. I had no intention of eavesdropping on you guys."
As soon as I finish my explanation, I sit back and relax, pretending to nonchalantly slip out the truth. Then, without missing a beat, I smoothly transition the conversation back to her legal issue, hoping to divert P'Four's anger away from my accidental intrusion into her personal matters.
