You wouldn't believe what I witnessed today—P'Four unleashing her serpentine power.
Let me provide some context. There was a photoshoot for the university's public relations campaign held at our vibrant grandstands. Professional photographers were hired by the contest organizers.
Let me tell you this: Our university is not only famous for its academic excellence but also for it's good-looking students. Whenever the Prince and Princess Contest starts, it attracts lots of attention from outsiders.
One like click of yours contributes to the Popular Vote round, and the winner of that round will obtain some benefits for the final round.
More importantly...
The Popular Vote winner will be rewarded with 5,000 baht. When I heard that, my heart skipped a beat like a crayfish dancing in the river. However, with my plain face, there's no way I can compete with those other contestants.
"Hi, everyone! I'm Yaya-Ying, the one in charge of posting your amazing pictures on the Prince and Princess page. Today, we'll be using this locker room as our dressing area. Once your mentors are done transforming you into royalty, come find me here. The props are up for grabs on a first-come, first-served basis."
The transwoman senior student with the fabulous bob hairstyle announces, her stunning face beaming with excitement. She points to a long table overflowing with props, from pink books and teddy bears to a live St. Peter's fish. Are you serious!?
"You'll need to choose one of these props for your photoshoot. The photographer can only take two shots of each of you because he's dying to go home and crash on his belly." Yaya-Ying scolds a hipster guy who's busy checking the lights. He glares back at her with a mix of disdain and affection. Trust me, there's something lovey-dovey going on between them. "Now, get into position, everyone!"
Kook-Kai brings her makeup and hair equipment over to me and Khun in the bustling locker room. After working her magic on Khun's hair, he looks absolutely stunning, like a male lead from a Korean drama series. His gaze is a combination of unfortunate cluelessness and angelic innocence. As for me, it takes Kook-Kai quite a while to settle on a hairstyle.
"Anyway, just smile like you did during your princess audition."
Smile like when I looked at P'Four.
"I'll curl the ends of your hair and create a high ponytail. Oh, and you need to find a cute and fresh prop to take a photo with. Your character is the sunshine girl who brings smiles to everyone. Got it?"
"Crystal clear."
I was hoping for something colorful or pastel, but...
The prop I ended up with is the St. Peter's fish!
Well, I was the last contestant to emerge because Kook-Kai got caught up watching a hair curling tutorial on YouTube while working on my hair. Khun was the quick one, and Yaya-Ying wasted no time in urging him to find a prop in a hurry. He settled on a cool black backpack and slung it over his shoulder.
But seriously, for me? What in the world?! A half-dead St. Peter's fish?! It's still flapping and desperately gasping for air through its gills!
I feel so sorry for the poor thing. Instead of staring it down right now, I just want to set it free as soon as possible. I even try to establish a telepathic connection, silently pleading with it not to flop around during the photoshoot. I mean, come on, my face is already plain and unexciting, and now I have to pose with an aquatic creature!
The contestants from other majors burst into laughter. Some of them make snide comments, suggesting that this pitiful fish might just be my secret weapon to win the Popular Vote round. It's clear they're being sarcastic. I puff my cheeks out, trying to contain my embarrassment. That's when Khun comes over and notices my less-than-ideal prop.
