Namely, an issue that became quickly obvious in translating Beautiful Days and will pose a problem for all the DR1 stories: What pronouns should I use for Chihiro?
In Japanese it's much easier to avoid gendering a character than it is in English. In Japanese these stories completely skip over using any gendered pronouns at all for Chihiro, iirc, but I don't have the same luxury unless I make the writing stilted, which I don't intend to do. (I tried "they", and while I support singular they in general, it read more like deliberately gendering Chihiro as nonbinary, which was not the intention.)
Since many of these stories are from a general POV or Naegi's POV from before anyone dies, and there is no indication that any of them are aware of Chihiro's secret, I will be using female pronouns in most stories. The exception is the one story in which Chihiro is the main character, and so because it follows his POV, that story will have male pronouns. This note is simply to inform everyone that this is a choice I have made as a translator and not something that is in the original text one way or the other. Of course, if I stumble across gendered pronouns while translating that my mind skipped over, I may come back to edit this post.
