Minnie sat stiffly on the couch, her hands tucked underneath her legs. Willow sat stiffly on the chair across the room, looking at her coldly. Minnie had begged to be let inside, and she was sure that Willow was debating slamming the door in her face. But the desire to have Minnie close won- after all, Willow was hopelessly in love with her.
A fact Minnie wished wasn't true.
Now, the pair sat in silence. Minnie didn't want to start speaking; she knew that everything would fall apart as soon as she opened her mouth. She knew she would lose Willow. But the guilt gnawed at her, wrenching open her jaws and forcing words through dry lips.
"I'm not in love with you," Minnie began, "but I love you. And I want you. But I can't want you in the ways you want me to want you."
Willow's face remained stony. "Are you breaking up with me? If you are, you're really fucking this up."
Minnie chuckled joylessly. "No, all I want is to stay with you. To be how we were. But-" she paused, swallowing.
"But?" Willow arched an eyebrow.
"But I'm aromantic," Minnie breathed, the admission feeling like a weight off her chest. It was the first time she had said something like this, but it felt right.
"I see." Willow stood up mechanically, her expression impossible to read. "So you saw me as a sex toy."
Minnie opened her mouth, but no words came out. Had she used Willow for sex? Confronted with this possibility, Minnie didn't know the answer.
"Well, obviously, this relationship is over," Willow said dryly. "I think you should leave."
Minnie nodded and stood, heading towards the door. She knew that this was coming, and she also knew she had no right to beg Willow to reconsider. Being with Minnie would only cause the girl pain.
As the door closed behind Minnie, she turned to catch one last glimpse of her ex. A single teardrop left a stain on Willow's cheek.
