I
BEFORE
On her knees, Sarah tried many times to stand up. When she got it, she sat on the bed and waited for noises coming from the apartment. No sound.
My cell phone, she remembered.
She looked around looking for her smartphone, but the room was completely upside down; any corner you look at was covered by blood. She started to pass her hands over her naked body searching for injuries. She touched her arms, her head, her breasts, and when she got to the hips, on the left side of her body, she felt an excruciating pain that made her tremble.
More blood.
A deep cut under the waist was irradiating as gunpowder wick, a burning pain from the hip to the brain. Everything turned around her. I can't faint, she told herself. She took a deep breath, and thousands of needles penetrate her lungs. A rough groaning came out of her throat and made her surprised by her own voice.
I don't want to die here! She panicked.
She stood up suddenly, and she leaned against the wall next to the door. The lampshade on the bedside table shined lonely, making scary shadows on the walls. She counted to three, and she got through the darkness, looking for the closest support.
Her shoulder was against the cold wall of the hall, Sarah walked robotically towards the room, with one of the hands pressing the left the side of the hipbone, she couldn't lose any more blood. By the end of the hall, the room welcomed the darkness, except for the light coming out if the front door, that was opened. The air flow that entered there danced around her body, and it made many of the cuts on her skin burn like fire. Her knees failed in every step let her body even closer to the floor. When she was almost reaching the little table beside the couch, Sarah fell on her knees, and she hit the head on the floor making a hollow noise. She couldn't move anymore. Gravity seemed to become stronger, especially over her body, holding back her hope of standing up again.
When her eyes were almost closing, she saw the wire of the phone right before her. She stretched her arm with all strength left in her, and her right hand pulled the wire stronger that she could imagine. The device fell loudly on the floor, before her head. Sarah grabbed the phone as her life was in there, and thumb pressed the "redial" button. When she put the device on her ear, the noise from the calling seemed so loud that it almost made her deaf. After the fifth ring, a male voice picked up, sleepy.
"Hello."
"Please," her voice came out as she was splitting up air. "The door."
The world became dark, bringing peace to all her pain.
