I

BEFORE

Sarah was entertaining herself with a romance of L.H. Cosway when she heard the bookstore's attendant's voice.

"I swore this book was here," grumbled the employee.

She raises her eyes from the book and saw the attendant rummages the shelf where I was sat; a woman was with her.

"Yeah... hmm. I'm sorry, it must be here," the attendant stuttered. "Are you interested in that book, ma'am? We have other books for children we're releasing chicken... hmm... this one 'Lottie Happy Chicken' " she shook the colored book in her hand.

"It wasn't exactly that what I was looking for," answered the client, a bit embarrassed. "Don't you have classics? Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel?"

"We have a collection of many stories. Just wait a moment. I'm gonna search it on the system."

The attendant turned around and walked away.

The client passed her hand on her face and sighed tiredly. Her hair was brown and wavy, her bangs hid partly the eyes, which were also brown. She passed her fingers on the books on the shelf, but she was not interested in any book in particular.

"She's new here," Sarah blurted and looked back to the book.

The woman looked surprised when she heard her voice because she had not noticed Sarah until to that moment. When she realized that there was someone there, she asked cautiously:

"Sorry, did you say?"

"The attendant, she's new here."

A close-lipped smile raised the corners of her lips.

"I noticed that. How did you find out?" the woman's gaze softened.

"I come here very often. She started last week," Sarah looked at the attendant.

The woman was actually a girl. She was probably in her twenty's, almost the same age as I. She was short and wore a shirt and jeans. Very simple, she thought.

"You're not going to find this kind of literature here" she warned, and the woman took a step in her direction. "There's a bookstore on the next block, maybe you'll find it there."

"Actually, I'm interested in the illustrations. It would be perfect if I found copies from the originals. I wonder if I can find something like that in that bookstore you're saying."

Sarah let a bookmark in the book and closed it. She was sat on that couch for more than two hours. Sarah had decided leave college earlier and skip the most boring class on Earth. But that wasn't to only reason she ran away from "Professional Ethics II". What she really wanted indeed was to escape from her boyfriend Michael, who insisted in pick her up after class every day. He has been too clingy, but even though she loved his adoring, his attitudes sometimes sucked. She texted Michael saying that she wouldn't go to class and turned the cell phone off. He would be mad, who cares, he would forgive her soon.
