It's a peaceful day. So, I decide to sit in one of the garden chairs. The table in front of me isn't very big, but it's big enough to hold two plates. Just what I need. Nothing more. The breeze is a bit cool, which only adds to my sense of calm.
This is one of my favorite parts of my routine. Peace and tranquility. I gaze at the green meadow that stretches as far as the eye can see. The lush grass, dotted with numerous flowers. Today is undoubtedly a perfect day. Although they all are. The truth is, it doesn't matter if it's sunny or rainy, stormy or hail-ridden; all my days are perfect.
I just heard a noise coming from inside the house. I turn my head towards it. I see my home. Small but cozy. Just what I need. A wooden house filled with life thanks to the surrounding nature. The noise I heard doesn't bother me; it's the usual sound. So, I simply return my gaze to the wonderful scenery in front of me.
I close my eyes for a moment... and I hear only the chirping of birds and the gentle rustling of the wind. Everything is perfect. And the best part is that it will never change. My days are always like this, and they always will be.
I open my eyes... everything is still in complete calm. Here, almost completely removed from everything and everyone. I lift my gaze and see those towering walls. Those walls protect us. But there's nothing to fear; they will always protect us. Always, because I want to stay here forever.
A door gently opens, and someone approaches, carrying something. They place it on the table and look at me.
"Reiner... Are you okay?"
I also look at her, and I can only gaze into her eyes. As always, I'm entranced by them. She places a hand on my cheek, looking at me with concern.
"Darling, you seem different."
I take her hand and guide her to the empty chair. I don't want her to worry because there's nothing to worry about.
"I'm fine... completely fine," I smile at her. "Wow, what a breakfast. You're an expert in the kitchen."
She laughs, but I can tell she's still worried. It's in her face. Her eyes seem to say much more than her words.
"Do you think we're missing something?"
"Our life is perfect just as it is," I reply.
Suddenly, I sense her nervousness. She looks down at her abdomen. I don't fully understand. In the end, I find myself worrying too; I don't want anything to be wrong. I don't want anything to ruin this wonderful life.
"Are you sick?"
She quickly shakes her head, and I see tears streaming down her cheeks. This startles me. Suddenly, I don't hear the birdsong, their flapping wings, or even the rustling of the wind. She places her hand on her belly, making gentle circles.
"I'm pregnant... Reiner, we're going to be parents."
I open my eyes wide. That's what her strange behavior was all about. She continues to look at me with teary eyes, and she seems uneasy, but there's nothing to fear. Our life is perfect, and it always will be. I get up and approach her to hold her close. I want to feel her warmth and convey that I'll always be there for her. She returns the hug. When we part, I can't help but wipe away the tears that are falling, this time out of joy. I place a hand gently on her abdomen while she looks at me tenderly.
"You're the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you too much to put it into words."
After saying this, I join our lips in a kiss. I think the excitement has overwhelmed me, and I'm crying too. Now I imagine an even happier life than before, even though that was hard to imagine. In nearly a year, a little boy or girl will come into this world and will be able to grow up in harmony with this beautiful place.
