As Sweet As Roses

After eleven lengthy hours, we finally arrived home. My eyes were finally at ease, away from the bright lights of Bright Sun and back to the silky, clear ponds and rivers of Algoria.

We were greeted by the flying fishes in the ponds of the castle's driveway. They performed an amusing dance for us. It was evident that we were missed, even if it was only little over a day.

The carriage finally came to a halt in front of the The Thorne Castle. We said our farewells and thank you's to the equestrian and the horses, then made our way into the castle. Home sweet home.

I had longed to return to the ineffable beauty of Algoria and here we were. The fresh relief of familiarity washed over me as I smelt the ocean's breeze. What I would do for a swim in this moment.

Isabella went ahead of me to unpack my luggage. She seemed exhausted but insisted that she wanted to help, as a thank you for inviting her to the Ball. Sure. I then warned her not to overwork herself and she was on her way.

I sighed. It was time for a long, fruitful nap after all that energy spent at the Ball.

"Your Highness!"

My peace was cut sort. A man, dressed in a plaid suit came running to me.
He was Grace's newly appointed advisor. Leroy. He almost fell.
"Your Highness, i-if I may..." He said, panting.

"Yes?" He was already this close to me so why not?

"There was a message for thou, Your Highness."

A message?

"A royal wishes to visit the kingdom, Your Highness. They are asking for permission."

Why in the world would a royal request such a thing from me? Why from me and not the King?

"And who may that royal be?" I inquired, genuinely curious.

"That royal is, Princess Rosa of The Garden of Eden." said Leroy, still panting.

It was her. The little witch that wants to steal Felix from me and now she wishes to visit my kingdom. So be it.

"Send a message to the princess that I gladly accept her visitation."

"Yes, Your Highness." Leroy said and he was off.

Poor thing. The mouse willingly entering the cage of a lion. How sweet. How easy.

If you are unaware, Rosa is the princess of The Garden of Eden. A sanctuary. A safe space.

In history books, everyone in this world is taught that everything began in The Garden of Eden. Every human being, animal and plant is derived from the vast garden. They were the first kingdom and the only kingdom in the world for a time, until humanity began to separate.

Those who looked similar, spoke in the same tongue and believed in the same God, went their own ways, creating their own kingdoms, expanding their kind and filling the world with good and evil.

This was where the 'elemental' groups began to form. Water, Earth, Fire, Light and Air. There are also other elements, but these are the main five. The most powerful. The most necessary.

All the kingdoms of the world align with one of these elements.
For instance, Algoria aligns with water. The people have evolved into being able to breathe for longer periods underwater and the ability to withstand the various forces of water pressure when compared to non Algorians. Another example, The Golden Arches aligns with light. Their people have evolved to withstand the immense light rays from the sun and their cities, hence their unique eye colour, violet.

These kingdoms eventually grew; and a select family was nominated as 'royalty'. The reason varied across kingdoms. This was how the world's royal monarchy began.
