It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to

Tommy's excited. He's been waiting for weeks for this day.

Why?

Because it's his birthday!

He knows that every year, exactly on this date, they celebrate both the anniversary of his adoption AND his birthday.

When it is this special occasion, they are always home and do something super special by surprising him.

So, yeah, Tommy's pretty excited.

When he wakes up, he practically jumps out of bed with a wide smile.

Yeah, sure, he might have school today, but that won't stop him from being happy.

Tommy quickly gets ready and practically bounces when he walks down the hallway.

He can't wait to see his family.

As he's going down the stairs, he can hear laughter in the kitchen; he smiles even wider.

He enters the room in which everyone is in, and they are all eating breakfast at the table.

That's weird... They usually wait to eat breakfast until Tommy wakes up.

"Toms!" Wilbur rushes and puts his now dirty but empty plate into the sink, "You look extra happy today!" The man says and pulls Tommy into a side hug.

"Yeah, what's going on?" Phil laughs.

Woah! Even Phil is here today! Tommy hasn't seen him in forever!

"You're usually never this happy when you have to go to school," Techno raises an eyebrow and grins.

Tommy pauses.

'Oh! I get it! They must be pretending that they don't know it's my birthday so they can surprise me!' He plays along, "Nothing's really going on today. I just woke up in a good mood," He says with a smile.

"That's a first," Techno chuckles.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Tommy rolled his eyes and stuck up his middle finger, "Anyway," He elongated the word, "What are you guys doing today?"

"Nothing much. I've got band practice, so I have to leave soon," Wilbur shrugs.

"Fencing practice for me," Techno signs but looks happy.

"At least you guys get to have a bit of fun," Phil groans, "I have a work project I need to finish today."

Tommy pauses again, "I see! Well, I hope you guys have a good day!"

"Aw, thank you, Toms," Wilbur says, hugging Tommy tighter.

Tommy's heart swells.

Phil looks down at his phone and–

"Oh shit! I was supposed to be there ten minutes ago!" Phil rushes from the table and places his dishes in the sink.

"Damn! Me too!" Wilbur exclaimed with wide eyes.

"Ugh," Techno groans, "I should probably get going as well."

"Oh! Okay!" Tommy laughed, trying to hide his disappointment.

They all rush out of the kitchen, and Tommy follows closely behind.

Wilbur slips on his shoes and says, "See ya later, Tommy!" Yelling out as he exits the house.

"Have a good day at school, Tommy! And don't get into trouble!" Phil laughs, and then both he and Techno leave.

Tommy stares at the front door for a minute, then looks down at the floor.
