Tommy felt like he was floating in the water or maybe even drifting through the sky. He didn't exactly know.
All he knew was that he couldn't move, and he felt tired as fuck.
Tommy could faintly hear voices as he tried to get his body to work.
Determined to regain control, he mustered every ounce of strength to break free from the restraints that held him captive.
Slowly, he inched closer to the soft-spoken voice that beckoned him.
He could hear it more clearly now.
With each step, the voice grew clearer, as if it were calling out to him.
Tommy closed his eyes, allowing himself to immerse fully in the sound.
"Please, wake up, Tommy."
This confused the boy; It sounded just like Techno...
But how was that possible? Hadn't he died?
Tommy moved closer and heard the voice again.
"Please..."
Then Tommy heard something else, something different this time. There was a faint beeping sound that was getting louder and louder.
It was awfully annoying, Tommy thinks.
If only he could roll his eyes and block out the noise, he would gladly do so.
Once again, Tommy heard the voice much louder and clearer than before.
"We miss you so much..."
This time, it sounded like Wilbur, as if he was sobbing.
Tommy takes a deep breath in and—
Why did it smell like antiseptics?
Tommy's eyes slowly opened, and the bright light made him close them again.
He blinked a few times and noticed the source was coming from fluorescent lights above him.
Tommy weakly looked over and saw his family sitting beside him on chairs. Techno and Phil had their heads down. On the other hand, Wilbur was closer with his hand holding Tommy's.
It reminded him of the time he had to hold onto Wilbur as we walked with a blindfold so we wouldn't bump into anything on the sidewalk. Wilbur laughed a lot at Tommy that day.
Now, it was different; Wilbur was just sitting on a blue hospital chair with a mourning expression.
Wait– A hospital chair?!
Tommy squinted his eyes and looked around, noticing he was in a hospital bed.
'Well, shit. I didn't die after all,' Tommy chuckled, and all three men snapped their heads up.
Wilbur gasped and practically flew out of his seat; Tommy noticed his red eyes with tears staining his cheeks.
"Tommy!" All three men yelled out.
"Hey, guys," Tommy chuckled weakly, still tired even with his long rest.
Wilbur tried not to cry, but a sob ripped from his throat, "Oh, fuck! You're okay!
"Oh, prime! We're so fucking sorry," Phil said with a devastating tone.
"It's alright," Tommy muttered, looking down at his hands.
"No!" Technoblade yelled, "It is not alright."
Tommy snapped his head up to Technoblade. He had never seen so much emotion on the older man's face.
"I–" Tommy began to speak but was cut off.
"What we were doing to you was not alright, Tommy," Technoblade said sternly, but his voice was wavering, "You... You almost died because of us..."
"I know you weren't doing it on purpose..." Tommy gave a pained smile.
"We weren't, but we still caused it, and I am so fucking sorry," Wilbur said, his jaw tight. Tommy could tell that he was trying not to cry again.
Just then, Tubbo and Ranboo flew into the room.
"What the hell! Tommy! Why didn't you tell us!" Tubbo says firmly.
Once again, Tommy looks down at his hands.
"I knew something was wrong!" Tubbo says, pointing a finger at Tommy as if he was scolding him.
"Yeah, he complains a lot more when he's sick," Ranboo mutters.
"Fuck off," Tommy rolls his eyes.
"You need to let us know when shit like this is going on!" Tubbo signed, "We could've helped!"
"Could you have?" Tommy made eye contact with the other boy, "Truly?"
"Well... I don't know..." Tubbo looked down at the floor as if he was thinking, then back up at Tommy, "But we could've tried!"
Tommy let out a tiny self-deprecating laugh, "You know just as well as I do that nothing would've worked."
Ranboo noticed that Tommy's family was looking at them with pleading faces, and he signed, "Come one, Tubbo. Let's leave for a second so they can talk to Tommy... Privately," Ranboo pulled Tubbo out of the room, both still glaring at the family as they walked away.
"Look, Tommy," Phil began, "We never wanted to make you feel like we didn't love you; of course, we love you."
"Yeah? Well, you certainly didn't do a good job of that," Tommy scoffed, "You even forgot my birthday and the day you adopted me."
Wilbur gasped with wide eyes, "Shit... Tommy... I'm so sorry. We've been so busy, but that's not an excuse. We should've shown you we cared more and made more time for you."
"I promise you," Phil spoke with a determined voice, "We will never let this happen again," and Wilbur nodded quickly.
"Can you..." Techno looked away, pain still apparent in he is eyes, "Can you ever forgive us?"
Tommy paused for a second and took a deep breath, "Of course I can. You guys are my family, and I love you too much."
They all looked at him with surprised faces. Then Wilbur began crying again and started hugging Tommy. Techno and Phil got up off their chairs and did the same.
"AH! You're fucking crushing me!" Tommy laughed but hugged back.
They pulled back with light laughs and little "sorrys," and the boy smiled mischievously at them.
"Welp, now can we celebrate my birthday?" Tommy spoke with a smile.
Everyone burst out laughing.
Although Tommy almost died because of his family's neglect, he longed for their love and the warmth they all once shared.
Tommy's love for them would never waver, even if he was coughing up blood and flowers, because he thought they would never care.
He now knows they love him back, even if he had waited months for this, and even through all the pain he endured...
He finally feels loved again.
