A/N - Hey, first chapter! Yay! Sorry for this taking so long, updates should be much faster going forward. The long pieces of writing in italics are Zane talking like he did in Prime Empire, EP 13, Ninjago Confidential (aka the best episode) in the detective monologue. I hope you enjoy, and any and all suggestions are appreciated! 912 words by the way =)
"It was a dark and gloomy evening. The Nindroid stood atop a tall building, his ninja duties left behind him. Fancy flips and roundhouse kicks would be of no use here. He had to employ other tactics. It had been long since he had let his other talents take charge, but he figured it was time. Earlier that day, he had donned his grey trench coat, adorned with many hidden weapons and tools. It still fit perfectly, complimenting his tall and muscular build. His matching fedora was pulled low over one eye. Though his heart belonged only to one, he couldn't deny, he was a treat for the ladies. But it was not for the ladies that he had dressed so devilishly handsome today, no. A new drug gang in Ninjago city was exporting hundreds of tonnes of illegal substances. And today, it was up to him and his gorgeous partner to find them. The tricky part was, there was a deadline. Tonight, at 9:00 sharp, would begin Ninja Game Night. A prestigious battle, lasting many hours, where only the best could compete. It would involve intense Uno matches, rounds upon rounds of Monopoly, and would test the sharpest of minds in games of Scrabble and Cluedo. With many challenges to overcome, this Droidective would - Oh, Pixal!"
Behind him stood the gorgeous partner that he had spoken of. Pixal was wearing a confused yet amused expression and a trench coat the exact shade of #888E8E that he was wearing. The sight thrilled him. Until it didn't.
"Pixal, you're not wearing your hat!"
"No, no I am not. I am wearing the trench coat because that at least has some use, it is hiding some weapons that I have on me, but the hat is taking it too far, I am not doing that again. I will not let you embarrass me like this, the team would never let me forget it. Let's hurry up and find these lowlifes so that we can get back and kick some ass in Game Night "
"I was intent on the lady wearing the hat, so I had to implement other strategies. I looked at my beautiful stubborn partner standing with perfect posture, her arms crossed in a serious manner her gorgeous face set in stone, those lovely emerald green eyes staring at me, judging my technique. I knew that it would be no small feat to convince her to wear the hat, but if anyone could do it, it would be her charming detective boyfriend" Pixal rolled her eyes and cracked a smile at this one, but a light blush on her face was becoming apparent. "Ahh, the fair lady is indeed allowing her soft side to show, it seems that the tall gentleman was able to break through the tough shell she wears. " She chuckled this time, bowing her head and allowing Zane to place the hat on her head.
"There we go! You now look ready to solve any case! Including the mystery of how you stole my heart!"
Pixal rolled her eyes again (if only there would be a competition for that at game night, she would win easily), and shook her head. She was amused at her boyfriend's antics and couldn't help but give in and play detective. However, instead of a cooperating partner, Zane got an "Oh, I can answer that if you could tell me the solution to the conundrum of where you left your sense of style ". That sassy remark earned a shocked look from him, accompanied by a smirk from her.
"FSM, give me strength" muttered Zane, making sure Pixal could hear, her smirk wide as ever. "Well Pixal, if my sense of style is missing, then I suppose I'll require your help in finding it. We'll go and look for any leads on this shipment now, and I'll take you to the mall tomorrow, does that sound good?"
Pixal tilted her head to the side, apparently considering his offer. They both knew he was going to take her out to the mall anyway, but she gave him the courtesy of at least pretending to think about it. After seemingly making up her mind, she looked him in the eyes, locking him in that cold, captivating gaze of hers. Daring him to say something else. She loved doing that. Zane would always freeze under that gaze, struggling to get a proper sentence out, but not being able to look away. The witty quip he was about to say melted in his throat. So much for the Master of Ice. "Deal," she said, in that fancy detective accent. That made Zane smile one of the most genuine, happy smiles she had ever seen on him. It made her heart flutter, knowing that it was because of her.
He reached out for her hand and gently pulled her along as he started walking in the direction of the docks. Him almost skipping with joy, her walking like a soldier. His systems almost overheating, her power source doing backflips.
Both because of those damn matching trench coats.
