It was hard to find time for our budding secret romance during the day. Heeseung was constantly working. Voice training, Dance training, Time in the studio, Television, Commercials, you name it. Most of it I had to book for him, myself. Annoying.
But late at night, after everyone went to bed– That was our time to be together.
He would sneak into my room, being very careful to not alert anyone.
Sometimes we would read together, other times we would watch Studio Ghibli movies or stream drama's, but most of the time, we just talked. He would lay his head in my lap and we would talk for hours until he struggled to keep his eyes open. Goodnight's were hard, because as badly as I wanted him to stay the night in my room, he had to get back to his own so we wouldn't rouse suspicion.
A few weeks had passed since we started seeing each other romantically. It felt so wrong to sneak around, but also so exciting. I looked over at him from across the breakfast table, and we'd exchange small knowing smiles. Reveling in the beautiful secret that was only for us. There was something magical about it.
"Hana, you don't eat very much. Here, take my fish." said Jake, moving to scoop the two little dried fish from his bowl into mine. Heeseung quickly knocked his chopsticks against Jake's like a sword, causing the fish to fly into the air and land in Sunoo's hair.
"Hey! I just showered," whined Sunoo, picking the fish from his silky hair.
"Why did you do that!?" asked Jake.
"I was just playing," laughed Heeseung, reaching his bowl across the table. "Here, Hana. Take my fish instead." he winked.
Later, the boys had to go to the studio to record some songs, Heeseung and I hung back behind the group as we walked down the street so that we could talk more privately.
"What was that at breakfast?" I whispered.
Heeseung bit his bottom lip and smiled shyly, his cheeks flushing red.
"I don't want anyone else to be lovely to you. You're my girlfriend, ya know. I'm supposed to take care of you, no one else."
Girlfriend? I'd never heard him say the word out loud before. My heart fluttered wildly at the idea. I'm his girlfriend.
Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see a silhouette that seemed familiar. A slender frame in a leather jacket and a pair of sunglasses. My heart leaps into my throat and I jump to the side, bumping into Heeseung.
"Hana? What's wrong?" He asks, his tone concerned.
I look around for the man that startled me. Is it Takashi? Is he following me? These questions and more flooded my mind as my eyes darted around the streets, a cold sweat beading on the back of my neck. Suddenly, he's back in my sight, and I breathe a sigh of relief. It's not him...It's not him. Just a guy walking his dog. I swallow hard and exhale a sharp breath, my heart still beating so fast that it could bust through my chest at any moment.
"Hey, hey, you're alright." said Heeseung, his voice calm and soothing. "Nothing will happen to you while I'm around. I promise." he smiles.
I nodded and tried to make my breath find its normal rhythm, walking a little closer to Heeseung than before. Just knowing that Takashi is out there somewhere makes my skin crawl.
