Ember

After a long morning spent hiking to inspect the lightning tree, Beetee decided to give us the remainder of the day off.

We take turns napping until the late afternoon when we're all wired and growing restless. This is when Finnick has the bright idea to have a feast with the seafood before we fry it all.

I sit out on deep-diving for oysters, instead choosing to keep watch with Johanna on the shore.

"Are we gonna talk about it?"

I raise my brow at her and ask, "Talk about what?"

She playfully nudges my side with a roll of her eyes as she says, "Yours and Finnick's steamyyy make out session earlier."

I scoff, fiddling with the handle of my knife. "What, are you jealous or something?"

Jo just laughs in response as we watch Finnick break the surface with yet another round of oysters.

He swims over and drops them into the pile at our feet. "Ladies," he grins, splashing away and diving back under.

I can't help myself as I outwardly gawk at his back muscles while he swims away. I can feel Johanna's burning gaze on the side of my face.

"Maybe I am jealous," she smirks.

My head snaps to face her, and my eyes pierce through her own. She holds her hands up in surrender. "Kiddinggg..." she sings out. "Or am I?"

I shove her shoulders, successfully knocking her over and into the sand. An uncontrollable fit of laughter has me doubling over in pain.

Her eyebrows furrow and her face twists up in annoyance. "Y-your," I choke out in between laughs, my finger pointing at her face. "f-face!"

I'm holding my stomach, not paying attention, when I feel my feet abruptly leave the ground.

"OOMPH!"

Now it's Johanna who's laughing. The two of us are rolling around in the sand, giggling, when Finnick, Katniss and Peeta emerge from their oyster dive.

The three stand over top of us as we try to catch our breath. "Are we interrupting something here?" Finnick asks.

Katniss shares a look with Peeta before whispering, "I think this is the first time I've seen Johanna smile."

At this, Johanna's smile drops and she propels herself forward, up and back onto her feet. She never keeps her guard down long.

Jo extends one of her hands to help me back up and I gladly accept it. She tips her head in Finnick's direction before smirking and walking away.

"Should I be jealous?" He asks.

I slap a hand over my mouth to hold back my laugh. A string of giggles escapes as I assure him, "No, no you shouldn't." But I still have to bite down on my bottom lip, barely concealing my wide-tooth smile.

The six of us sprawl out in the sand and begin cracking open oysters. Peeta's just pried one open when he exclaims, "Hey! Look at this!"
