Among The Mountains

Chapter 9

Avery was not lying about  rewarding her mate for behaving when they came back to their room. She gave him a quick message to calm him down as he began caressing her arms with his hands. He looked up at her with brown eyes and watched as she removed her hair band, letting her hair drop to her shoulders. As Adam and Avery indulged in their private moments in their room, the rest of the group was occupied with socializing in the entertainment room. 

Ember was succeeding Ruby in their rounds of table tennis, losing the last match by a point. They joined chase in a game of darts that almost ended badly for Ember's foot. One of the darts missed the target and ricocheted to the floor, nearly missing her by inches. They switched to something else after unplugging the game. They hear someone open the door while they were playing another game. It was Alara coming to join them after taking a nap. Chase started to show off a little too much for his favorite female during a game of ping pong with Ruby. He nearly fell on the table after showing his "signature move" to the group. 

 Meanwhile, as the sunset painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, Adam was already fast asleep on the bed, sated and content, while Avery lay beside him, taking pleasure in the lingering warmth of their intimacy. An hour later, Adam began to stir from his slumber, his senses alerting him that he was in bed by himself. He nearly lost his cool when he saw Avery, who was standing in front of the bathroom sink. She was washing her face while waiting on the shower to warm. Adam hid his face and grabbed the sheets when he heard the shower door close. That when he decided to say F it and get out of the bed.

As she closed her eyes and let the warm water cascade over her body, Avery was surprised when the shower door slid open, revealing Adam. His desires had been reignited, and he couldn't resist the temptation of joining her once again.

"Looks like someone's awake," Avery purred, her voice husky with desire.

"More than you know," Adam replied with a mischievous glint in his eyes, nuzzling her neck.

Avery's hands slid to his face as they shared a passionate moment under the soothing spray of water. As the steamy scene continued behind the closed bathroom door, the rest of the group, oblivious to their escapades, was engrossed in different activities.

In the upstairs sitting room, which Alara had recently joined after her nap, only Ruby, Ember, and Chase were present. Ruby and Ember were occupied with the TV, surfing through its features to find something interesting to watch after their favorite show had finished airing for the week.

Their browsing led them to a trail camera's footage. It appeared to have recorded a variety of wildlife from the days before the group's arrival to several weeks prior. They were captivated by the animals and the sounds they captured.

However, when they reached the footage from the week before their arrival, their expressions changed. The unexpected and unsettling images they were about to witness had them on edge.
