Riley remains stunned at his discovery outside Resus. He goes to speak, but as if he is winded, he says nothing. He then takes another rather large inhale, before going to speak again: "Caroline?" He says. "But you're dead?"
Caroline is sat on one of the hospital's uncomfortable metal chairs. She looks around the hospital, and sees Riley. She gives a large, enthusiastic wave. "RILEY!" She shouts, "Come over here!".
Riley walks slowly and carefully over to Caroline. He doesn't blink, it's like he's been paralyzed...
Dylan slumps in his office chair. He picks up a pile of paperwork, before dropping it in the metal bin by his desk. All of a sudden, Rita opens the door, closes it behind her and hands Dylan Robyn's blood test results.
"Fast-tracked, as you desired, Dr Keogh." Rita says.
"Her cortisol levels haven't dropped since we've given her dexamethasone. I reckon could have a diagnosis" says Dylan. "Rita, follow me, and close my door behind you."
The Resus doors fling open and Dylan passes through. However he only opens the doors a little, and they fling back into Rita. Her reaction times aren't fast enough, and the door hits her in the face. She pushes the door back open. "Thanks for that, Dylan." She says.
Dylan instantly responds, without the slightest hesitation: "That's okay, Rita." He then looks at Robyn, who is sat up and still in a stable condition. "Are you okay?" Asks a nervous Robyn.
"Robyn, I need to ask you two rather personal questions, okay?" Dylan begins.
"Er, okay? Are they embarrassing?" Robyn asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Depends on your point of view. Now, first question, have you gained any weight recently?" Dylan queries. Rita leans over Robyn's metal beds and slaps Dylan on his right arm. "Dylan!" Rita starts, "That's a very personal question."
"What? If I'm going to diagnose her I need accurate results." Dylan replies.
"Diagnose?" Robyn asks, looking up at Dylan with a fearful tone.
"Yes, diagnose. Now, have you gained weight or not?" Dylan asks again.
"Er, yeah, a bit." Robyn responds. Her spine tightens at the fear she's about to receive a life-changing diagnosis.
"Now, my second question - have you noticed a decreased interest in sex?" Dylan asks again.
Robyn looks at Rita, who looks back at her and gives a warming smile, before turning back to Dylan and replying: "Well, yeah. I mean, I've been so busy at work." Robyn says.
Dylan then continues: "Okay, well combining your responses from those last two questions with your cortisone levels, I believe you have Cushing's syndrome. Do you know what it is?"
"Well, yeah. Vaguely. Can you explain?" Robyn responds.
"Cushing's syndrome, in your case, has been caused by a tumourous growth in your adrenal glands. Fortunately, in your case, we'll only have to remove the tumourous gland. I'll book you in for laparoscopic surgery. This surgery has a good success rate, with 65% of the symptoms being cured. I'll run you through the medication you'll be on after you've had your surgery." Dylan explains. "If you have any more questions, do feel free to ask." Dylan finishes.
"Er, no, not really. Thank you though, Dylan. When will I be able to work again though? Connie might have a fit if I'm not working again in the next few weeks." Robyn jokingly says.
"Don't worry about her. If she gives you any grief, I'll sort her out, okay?" Rita comfortingly tells Robyn.
"You won't get her banged up again will you?." Robyn replies jokingly. Both Robyn and Rita laugh, before Dylan shakes his head and continues: "It depends on your recovery rate. You should be out of here in the next week, I reckon." Dylan replies. "If that's all then, I'll probably see you tomorrow Robyn, goodnight." Finishes Dylan, before walking out of Resus again and back to his office.
